TikToker Tiffany Espensen filmed as her husband delayed their trip to the hospital after her water broke because he had a "bad tummy ache"—and it sparked a debate on TikTok about behavior during pregnancy and childbirth.

We've all heard stories of questionable behavior while a mom-to-be is trying to give birth, whether it's a husband not providing the support his partner needs, or a mother-in-law causing trouble with the nursing staff.

But we would have to say that a husband delaying the couple going to the hospital even though his wife's water broke, all because his stomach hurt, is one we haven't heard before.

After TikToker Tiffany Espensen's water broke and it was officially "Labor Day," instead of hurriedly grabbing their hospital bag and ushering her out the door like dads often do in the movies, Tiffany's husband instead came down with a severe stomach ache and delayed them going to the hospital.

He went from dry heaving to hovering over the toilet to not being able to take a breath before he finally laid down on the floor.

Anyone else’s husband had nerves? 😂😬 my water just broke and Lawson had immediate stomach pains! #funny #pregancytiktok #husbandsoftiktok #husbandandwifecomedy #marriedlife #newborn #birthstory #laughter #fyp

Most of the people in the comment section "got the ick" from the husband's behavior.

The primary concerns in the comments section centered around the husband not meeting his wife's needs during an already high-pressure situation. By complaining about a stomach ache, and even delaying their arrival to the hospital, the husband was effectively prioritizing his comfort over his wife's and baby's comfort, safety and medical care.

But there were a few encouraging voices who assumed this was how his body processed extreme stress.

Some took a more empathetic approach and pointed out that pregnancy and delivery are a stressful time for moms, but they can also be stressful for dads-to-be as well. Not only are they processing emotions about becoming a dad, but maybe experiencing stress while worrying about the health and safety of the people they love most: their wives and their future children.

In response to the comments, the mom later shared a video that showed the dad's involvement in the delivery room and providing early care for their baby once his nerves settled down.

Replying to @Alison nah, he came through when it mattered 🥹 #parenting #baby #newborn #family

It's easy to look at videos like this and immediately come up with an opinion, good or bad, about what's going on in the video. But this is a great reminder that sometimes there is more to the story.

Though the dad may have looked selfish at first, it seems he was experiencing extreme stress about what his wife was about to go through—and once she was okay, he was able to step into the role he signed up for.

Last week, Tianna Graham shoveled out her 2016 Honda Civic and drove out after a snowstorm, took it to work, and parked it in the same spot she’d left it before: next to a water main. Dad Sparks Heated Debate After 'Nice Note' He Left For Wife And Kids Before Work Trip Sets Her Off

When a person becomes a parent, much more will change in their life than they anticipated.

But that transition can be especially hard when a person feels like they're losing themselves to their role as a mom or dad—and that feeling is made even worse when their partner hyper-fixates on their new role.
