MAGA Senate Candidate Called Out After Telling Dubious Story About Minnesota Friend's 'Dyed-In-The-Wool Democrat' Neighbor

Minnesota Republican Senate candidate and former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya was widely mocked for sharing a dubious "anecdote" about a conservative friend of hers and her "dyed-in-the-wool Democrat" neighbor."

In remarks to C-SPAN, Tafoya suggested that disaffected Democratic voters will have a notable impact on November's midterm elections, and proceeded to bring up a friend.

Tafoya stressed that while her story is anecdotal, "it tells you where Minnesotans are starting to turn here":

"A friend of mine is a conservative. She has a neighbor who is a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. They never talk, for obvious reasons."

"But this neighbor came to her door the other night, knocked at the door, and said, 'Hi, I'm worried. I think my party has let me down. I'm wondering, should I put a sign in my yard? Will you put a sign in your yard? Here are the people I think they can help.'"

"Look, we feel a change here."

Tafoya has made similar remarks, telling reporters last week that she is "excited to reach out to those disaffected Democrats who feel that the party has left them, who feel like they're homeless politically."

She went on to say that "we're [Republicans] gonna hire people who are outsiders, who are willing to come in and fix this with new ideas and not just bend to party politics as the establishment always does."

She stuck to recent GOP talking points, saying that Minnesotans "do not want to see a socialist lurch anywhere in this country, and in particular in Minnesota, so I will do whatever I can to stand up against this movement toward Democrat socialism."

No one was buying her story at all.

Don't expect great things from Tafoya.

Last week, she was criticized after her past remarks about how Americans can make their gas go further amid rising fuel costs—namely by buying less Starbucks—resurfaced following her primary win. She said that until the Iran war is over "and gas prices go down, let's just be patriots about this."

Definitely not someone with Minnesotans' best interest at heart.
