Both social media and television talk shows have been home to ongoing debate ever since Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey to explain the ins and outs of their decision to give up formal ties to the royal family about a year ago.

The interview sparked plenty of differing opinions regarding Markle's two biggest bombshell claims: she was the victim of racism at the hands of the royal family and her confessions of suicidal thinking were shrugged off by the monarchy.

But although Markle's claims led to some arguments—and more than a few detractors have slammed her—few critics have been quite as fiery as British television personality Piers Morgan.

Hours after the interview aired on Sunday night, Morgan publicly attacked Markle.

Then, while hosting Good Morning Britain on Monday, Morgan accused Markle of making "the most incendiary charge I've ever seen in my career" and shamed the couple for "spray gunning [Harry's] family on global television." For context, Morgan made those comments while involved in a screaming match with Black activist Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu.

And on Tuesday, Morgan stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain when his colleague criticized his puzzling, intense scrutiny of Markle. Then later on Tuesday it was announced Morgan had altogether quit the show, which he's hosted since 2015.

Of course, people on social media have been weighing in on Morgan's ongoing downward spiral every step of the way. And, in true crowd sourcing internet fashion, some people even managed to dig up a possible backstory to explain Morgan's bizarre, relentless grudge against Meghan Markle.

A 2018 clip showed Morgan as he described a "date" he went on with Markle back in 2015, when she was still starring on the show Suits.

In the clip, Morgan told The Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy how the night went.

"We had two hours in the pub, she had a couple of dirty martinis, a couple of pints, we got off brilliantly and then I put her in a cab."
"It turned out to be a cab that took her to a party where she met Prince Harry. And then the next night, they had a solo dinner together and that was the last I ever heard from Meghan Markle."
"I have never heard from her again."

When Tubridy followed up to ask what happened, Morgan was blunt:

"She ghosted me, Ryan! Meghan Markle ghosted me."

Morgan later dismissed Markle as "a social climber."

People on Twitter found the old clip both informative and satisfying.

Of course, we can't be 100% sure of Morgan's motivations for dismissing Markle's claims so vehemently, going so far as to quit his job over it.

But as we know, the internet is a motive-making bunch. If it exists, the internet sleuths will find it.
