With former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial approaching in the Senate, Republicans have been attempting to place the blame for the January 6 insurrection anywhere but on him.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin even went so far as to claim Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California—who the rioters seemed to be targeting as a potential victim—was responsible for the violence.

Twitter couldn't believe how willing Johnson was to twist the facts.

Johnson isn't the only Republican trying to protect Donald Trump with ludicrous arguments.

Twitter users everywhere criticized Johnson for spreading yet more conspiracy theories.

The idea Nancy Pelosi incited the mob calling for violence against her is laughable.

It certainly doesn't seem like Johnson is prepared to give an unbiased, impartial opinion during President Trump's impeachment hearings.

Though Republican Senators like Ron Johnson are trying to shift the blame, the insurrectionists at the Capitol on January 6 were adamant about who inspired them to be there—President Donald Trump.

Rachel Maddow Blasts Peter Navarro For Inventing 'Expert' Who Inspired Trump's Tariffs Plan

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow criticized Peter Navarro—the official counselor to President Donald Trump—for inventing an economics expert named Ron Vara in his books to justify his pro-tariffs stance, noting that not only does "Vara" not exist, but that this whole episode explains where Trump got the idea for the tariffs in the first place.

Trump’s tariff crusade has pushed what was a bullish stock market to the brink of bear territory—a 20% drop from recent highs—faster than any president in modern history. If the market closes at that threshold, it would mark the swiftest collapse from bull to bear during a new administration since the S&P 500’s inception in 1957.
