Maya Hawke Just Found Out Shrek Isn't A Disney Character In Hilariously Awkward Fashion

The 'Inside Out 2' star was asked by interviewer Jake Hamilton to name a 'classic Disney character' she'd like to get into the head of—and her answer was decidedly not Disney.

Maya Hawke made quite the hilarious blunder while promoting Inside Out 2.

The cast of the Disney sequel was asked by Jake Hamilton:

"Who is a great classic Disney character you'd love to go in the head of, meet their emotions and just figure out what the hell is going on up there?"

Hawke, who plays Anxiety in the film, chimed in first:

"Shrek."
"I'd love to know..."

Shrek, of course, is a DreamWorks character.

The host quickly cut her off and filled her in:

"That's not a Disney character."

A visibly mortified Hawke replied:

"No. I'm so sorry. I got it."
"I'm so sorry. I'm so embarrassed."
"Thank you for catching me. Just... Oh my god. wow."

People on social media were highly entertained by the Stranger Things actor's gaffe.

Some, however, found it quite appropriate that Hawke was cast as Anxiety in the film.

Others shared they, too, got a chuckle out of Hawke's awkward mistake.

But they also get it.

Costars Amy Poehler, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Paul Walter Hauser and Liza Lapira shared their responses, as well, and yes, they were all Disney characters: Snow White, Goofy, Sully, Buzz Lightyear and Russell, the boy from Up, respectively.
