The 'Holdovers' star told Howard Stern how the music icon has called him over the years and left a message with his people, but with no reason as to why.

Paul Giamatti has been wracking his brain lately about why Cher would occasionally reach out to him.

The Holdovers actor recently disclosed on the The Howard Stern Show that the Goddess of Pop has been trying to get ahold of him, and he has "no f**king idea" why.

The topic started with Stern pointing out to listeners that Cher has reportedly been a huge fan of Giamatti and wants to speak with him.

The Emmy and Golden Globe winner confirmed the buzz and told Stern, "She wants to talk to me."

He continued:

"Every now and then, I get a message from somebody that says Cher really needs to talk to me, like it’s important, like it’s crucial that she talks to me."

The two celebs have yet to make contact, and the mystery continues to elude him.

Giamatti continued:

"And I’m like, ‘What the f**k? Why does Cher want to talk to me?'"
"Nobody will tell me."

Giamatti said that a year or so would go by without hearing from her until it would happen again out of the blue.

He said that eventually somebody that worked with Giamatti on his podcast managed to get him in touch with her, but the correspondence was limited to a voice message on his phone.

The actor recalled listening to the recording and repeated the message for Stern in his best Cher baritone:

"All she said was, 'I hear you want to talk to me.' That was it. That was all she said."

Stern confirmed that it was the other way around, that it was she who wanted to talk to him.

To which Giamatti replied:

"That's what I said, I left her a message and I said, 'That's great I'd love to talk to you but I thought you wanted to talk to me.'"
"And that's the last I heard."

What in the world does Cher want to discuss with him?

The internet had some ideas.

Users continued weighing in on the bizarre phone tag.

Celebrities contacting one another is not uncommon.

After all, the two stars do have something in common—they're both actors for starters, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that, as a fan, Cher would want to collaborate with him on a future project together.

Or something like that.

But at least she's now got his attention.

Giamatti added:

"I don’t know what she could possibly want to talk to me about."
"And it’s killing me, I’m dying to know what she wants to talk to me about. I mean, it would be great! I’d love to talk to her about anything. I don’t care, it’d be fantastic."

There's no doubt about that.

Pete Hegseth Ripped After Trying To Claim That The U.S. 'Didn't Start This War' With Iran

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was criticized after he claimed that the U.S. "didn't start this war" with Iran—just days after the Trump administration authorized an attack on various sites in Iran with the joint efforts of Israel over the weekend.

The war against Iran is already spreading beyond its initial battlefield. Iranian reprisals have struck Gulf states hosting U.S. bases—including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia—while Hezbollah has entered the fight, firing rockets into Israel and ending a month-long ceasefire.
