As the U.S. begins Pride Month in the coming week, lots of celebrities will make remarks in support of the community.
Miley Cyrus, however, gave the community more than a sound bite—she came up with a whole new classification system, one sure to be discussed throughout the upcoming months.
Her system: Disney gay or Nickelodeon gay?
In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the former star of Disney channel's Hannah Montana explained the difference.
“Nickelodeon gays ... like boogers and bro jokes. Disney I would like to think is a little bit more fabulous, especially if it’s about a teenage pop star wearing a wig."
"Being the most famous drag queen for kids ever—I’m like, you’re gay and you don’t live for Hannah Montana? What’s wrong with you?”
Clearly being tongue-in-cheek when referencing her own show, she gave her past character a new dimension, really, as one doing drag in every costume switch up.
Folks liked the idea of different personalities based on preferred childhood channels.
Folks agreed with how pivotal Hannah Montana was.
Some folks wondered if there were people who watched just one or the other.
A third category of gays?
Miley Cyrus recently talked about her experience with Reinke's edema, which is a vocal cord disorder—and what she says causes her distinctive sound.
Cyrus described the disorder as "abuse of the vocal cords" during a recent interview on The Zane Lowe Show.
"I have this very large polyp on my vocal cord, which has given me a lot of the tone and the texture that has made me who I am."
The disorder makes touring especially difficult because performing is "like running a marathon with ankle weights on," she said. But she acknowledged, "My voice is super unique because of it."
Cyrus’ new album Something Beautiful will drop on May 30th.
