Video Shows White Family Requesting American National Anthem On Cinco De Mayo—At A Mexican Restaurant, Of Course

Cinco de Mayo is a popular day of drinking and festivities in the United States, but sometimes, people are totally oblivious to the meaning of the day. And no, it's not to drink tequila and sport sombreros.

A white family eating dinner at an Ole's Mexican restaurant in Florida allegedly requested that the American national anthem be performed at the restaurant, from a Mexican musician, on Cinco de Mayo.

The incident was recorded by a fellow diner.

"BRUH IM AT A MEXICAN RESTAURANT AND WHITE PEOPLE REALLY REQUESTED THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AND STOOD UP FOR IT LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Twitter user @J_Nubz also wrote that the restaurant is known for taking music requests from patrons, and in this case, the family insisted that the musician play The Star Spangled Banner. They even stood up for it.

"They have a guy who comes in and takes requests every Friday night. Mexican guy. Plays anything. Country, rock. You name it. White guy comes up. Requests the national anthem. About 10 people stand up like we're at a sporting event with their hands on their hearts. Very weird."

What is Cinco de Mayo commemorating anyway? On May 5, 1862, Mexican forces won an unlikely victory over the invading armies of Napoleon III, at the Battle of Puebla. So, here we have white people, celebrating a day in which Mexican fighters defeated white people.

The more you know.

But Twitter users were really confused as to why, under any circumstance, requesting the American national anthem on Cinco de Mayo at a Mexican restaurant would be considered a good idea.
