TikToker's Viral Video Comparing Passages From The Bible To Socialism Has People Nodding Hard

Comedian Danny Killea puts Bible verses and socialism to the test.

TikToker Danny Killea shared a video presenting quotes that are either from the Bible or from socialist leaders—and they speak volumes.

America has spent centuries working out this whole church-and-state separation thing, and judging by literally any comment section involving the Bible and politics, we remain one toxic group project away from getting an F.

Comedian Danny Killea put that tension to the test in an August TikTok, quizzing viewers on whether a quote came from the Bible or a socialist leader. Standing beside a TV displaying his homemade quiz, Killea turned a simple slideshow into TikTok’s most politically dangerous PowerPoint presentation.

Killea kicked things off with a deceptively tricky one:

“Cursed is anyone who denies justice to foreigners.”

Bible or socialist leader? Lock in your answer. No cheating, Googling, or emergency calls to your pastor.

The answer was Deuteronomy. One point to Team Bible. Deuteronomy 27:19 goes further, condemning those who deny justice to foreigners, orphans, and widows. Subtle, it is not.

And obvi, putting “foreigners” and “justice” in the same sentence has been known to cause confusion. Just look at Sister Rose Patrice Kuhn, the Texas nun who drew attention online for supporting migrants at immigration court, including unaccompanied children.

Sister Rose explained what those visits mean to her:

“It is a way to support the migrants, the immigrants, who have their appointment with immigration, to let them know that they're not alone.”

I know. A nun caring about people in need. Try to contain your shock. Needless to say, her presence still drew criticism online, with some questioning her faith and whether her actions were actually supported by the Bible.

And therein lies Killea’s trap. Helping foreigners isn’t inherently socialist, but remove the chapter and verse, and suddenly everyone’s political radar starts malfunctioning.

Then came the money round, because religion and politics clearly needed a third rail:

“Your surplus should supply their needs, so that their surplus may also supply your needs, that there may be equality.”

Surely socialism. We’ve got surplus. We’ve got equality. What more evidence does an imaginary game show need?

Instead, Killea revealed another point for Team Bible:

“From Corinthians, and not the Bolshevik Revolution.”

Huh. Almost like that whole “love one another” thing was supposed to come with action items. But before Team Bible gets too smug, Killea did slip an actual socialist revolutionary into the mix.

Killea continued the faith-bending quiz:

“Always be capable of feeling deeply any injustice committed against anyone.”

Plot twist, class: that one belongs to Che Guevara, the Marxist revolutionary who became a major figure in the Cuban Revolution. And if you confidently circled “Bible,” don’t feel too bad—scripture isn’t exactly running short on passages about justice and caring for others.

Before anyone starts throwing around the S-word, a quick definition: socialism broadly refers to political and economic systems favoring collective or public ownership or control of resources and the means of production, often with the goal of reducing economic inequality. Like most ideologies, it comes in more than one flavor.

That’s Killea’s point: strip away the labels, and some biblical teachings sound remarkably similar to ideas Americans routinely associate with socialism

A lot of Bible bios came by for the last video and said some lovely things, such as “this is just leftist garbage.” To that I say no; THIS is leftist garbage. #america

As for the response? Turns out people have feelings about mixing scripture and socialism. Who knew?

Here’s how the discourse unfolded:

So, who exactly is the guy behind TikTok’s theological pop quiz? Killea is a New England-based stand-up comedian, content creator, and host of the podcast Dinner at Your Place?, whose comedy also tackles serious political and social issues.

Case in point, Killea recently took on reports surrounding ICE and electric shock gloves:

15 seconds is so much longer than you think #america

But his feed isn’t all politics. Killea also weighs in on family photo etiquette, baseball player names, and rightfully taking the Stranger Things finale to task.

Killea told BuzzFeed what drives his comedy:

"I hope people laugh first, especially if it's a video about a regular topic. If I am going to express how I'm feeling about one of those 'hot button issues,' I still try to have jokes or make it humorous. Regardless of similar affiliations, I can relate to people in some capacity and make them laugh."

Don’t believe he’s got the clever comedy chops? Take a look:

It dorsnt have to be brutal or savage to be scary. There are plenty of ways to give a fright that don’t involve buckets of red corn syrup

Faith and politics do have a way of colliding in public life. Quoting the Bible is easy. The harder part is putting those words into action—feeding people, pursuing equity, welcoming foreigners, helping your neighbor, or simply showing up for someone, as Sister Rose does—when those teachings challenge your politics.

Killea’s quiz makes that tension awfully hard to ignore.

In his post, Smither criticized President Donald Trump when he announced that "when I vote for a Democrat, [Florida gubernatorial candidate David Jolly], for the first time in my 41 years of life this November, it will not be because my values have changed, but because my party has abandoned our values for the sycophancy of a transactional leader who has none."
