People Share Which Things They Find It Hard To Believe Society Just Accepts

If you're alive in the world right now, you know there are a serious amount of things that it's difficult to believe people just sit back and accept.

Some of those things are so outrageous that people are actively seeking to make change on them.

u/blackangelcl asked:

What is the weirdest thing that society just accepts?

Here were some of the answers.

Call Awnel

In my opinion weirdest thing accepted by society is "The pronunciation of colonel".

Exploitation

Funeral prices. 15k to bury a body? These people are really just going to put that burden on the freshly mourning families?? Ridiculous.

The Planet Is Dying

The insane amount of packaging on everything. With one phone charging cable I've got a box, 2-3 pieces of moulded plastic, 2 twist ties, and instructions. We know our garbage is an epidemic problem but we don't bat an eye at the crazy packaging.

Ah Those Outdated Values

TV censoring, at least i the US. Brutal murder of a sex worker? The blood and violence is fine, but she has a boob out, censor the nipple.

*Uncomfortably Shifts*

Stagnation of leadership. There's a tendency for societies to find a style of leadership and say 'this is the perfect way to lead and cannot go wrong. Other people should all adopt this too.' And then wonder why corruption happens. Every societal structure succumbs to it eventually.

That the blatant lies almost all companies use to sell products isn't considered false advertising...at least no one ever gets in trouble for it in the states

Smart Vs Hard

Working yourself to death. The whole concept of "hard work" is wrong. It ain't about hard work. It's about smart work.

Work smarter, optimize your time, resources, skills, everything.

Staying inside a cubicle for 8-10 hours just because you're "working hard" is not productive. It's weird how normal how people tend to see this.

I understand if an athlete, musician or perfecting your craft, you have to put in the work. After that, work smarter, not harder.

Hmmm......

We rub paper between our butt checks until we can't see poo anymore and say "that's clean enough". Nowhere else on our body would this be okay.

What Is The Law Here

Food taboos are weird.

We eat the unfertilized egg of a chicken and that's fine. Drinking milk from a cow's teat is also fine, except in Asia.

Eating an insect is gross and disturbing, except in some parts of the world where it's normal.

We eat babies and call it high cuisine (veal, lamb).

Horse is fine in France, but taboo in the USA. The same with dogs and cats in China.

Then there's religious restrictions on top of all that.

About the only thing that's universal is that we don't eat other people. And even that wasn't universal until very, very recently.

Gavin Newsom Epically Shuts Down Suggestion That Kid Rock Should Be Doing Super Bowl Halftime Show

Earlier this week, the NFL announced that worldwide superstar Bad Bunny would be the headliner for the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show, causing right-wing heads to explode over the news.

After far-right provocateur Nick Adams suggested that the singer, a fierce critic of the Trump administration, should not have been chosen for the halftime gig, California Governor Gavin Newsom's press office took to X to mock him in the account's now familiar Trump-esque style.

MAGA GOP Governor Candidate Drops Out After He's Caught Following Nonbinary Adult Performer Online

Wisconsin businessman and MAGA Republican Bill Berrien ended his 2026 gubernatorial campaign days after his online activities went public. He would have faced off against two Republican opponents in the GOP primary to see who would make it onto the the November 2026 general election ballot.

David Cross slams Saudi gig

It was no laughing matter when dozens of comedians signed on to perform at Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Comedy Festival, which premiered last week and runs through October 9. Marketed as the “world’s largest comedy festival,” the event has been billed as a milestone for the kingdom’s entertainment industry.

Organized by Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, the festival is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative to position the country as a hub for global cultural events. The lineup includes Kevin Hart, Aziz Ansari, Pete Davidson, Andrew Schulz, Jo Koy, Bill Burr, Jessica Kirson, Jimmy Carr, and Louis C.K.—yes, the same Louis C.K. accused by multiple women of sexual harassment in 2017.
