Who else likes to feel hurt when watching films for supposed enjoyment?

Usually, you want to watch a movie to feel something, be it excitement, humor, or a bit of fear. Sadness is a hard one to get behind. Why actively choose to watch something you know is going to make you cry and possibly reconsider calling your father you haven't spoken to in 15 years? Because sometimes you need to feel something.

Reddit user, u/Lazy-Ape, wanted to know what film crushed your soul when they asked:

What movie left you feeling depressed after?

Most films will hit us when we're in our childhood, exposing us to the horrors and harsh realities of the world. "Want to know what it's like to be an adult in an adult world, small child?"

Sad. It's sad.

Who's Ready For Infantcide?

"Bridge To Terabithia I swear idk if I can watch that movie again"

Demonix-Wolf

"It came out when I was about 11. A lot of it flew over my head but it still just made me really sad. Great movie but horribly depressing."

Your Childhood Is Gone Forever

"Any time I watch the LOTR trilogy, I am left depressed. Because of the immersive experience, nothing I watch afterwards can really compare, which makes me sad."

RZAxlash

"It brings me a certain bittersweet nostalgia, a longing for a time and place I can never visit."

"It took me a while to really understand that Frodo left in the end because the trauma of his journey was making it impossible for him to ever go back to normal life."

Flozza77

"I look at it as innocence lost. It's like you can never go back to being a child again. You're a grownup now."

Need a solid case of the weepies for a rainy Sunday afternoon? Try one of these out. You won't be disappointed.

Unless, of course, you don't feel like looking too inward at your own reliance on social media.

"Requiem for a Dream"

Jeevess83

"Bought it for $2, and I'm happy to have paid that little for it because I don't think I'll ever be able to watch it again."

"You only need to watch it the one time. It stays with you forever."

A Slow Descent Into Hell

"There's a movie named "Jagten" which Mads Mikkelsen is in. That movie made me felt terrible for the main character after I watched it. A kindergarden teacher is accused by a little girl of showing his penis to her. She does that because she kinda admires to him and tries to kiss him, but he tells her that her feelings to him are not appropriate. Little girl gets mad and tells that lie about him. His life turns into hell."

....Ohhhhhh, That's The Message Of The Film

"Her."

"It felt waaay too real. The way it depicts people having almost zero real life human connections while an AI becomes the most important emotional "being" in their lives really hit me. And of course I'm saying this on a social media platform..."

IntrospectiveApe

"One of the most chilling dystopia films because it's played straight like a love story."

It can feel like some filmmakers are out to brutalize their audiences, almost punishing them for watching the story they and their crew have crafted for you. Why watch these films?

Because they have something to say.

Right Out Of Nowhere

"Click."

"A surprisingly metaphorical Sandler film. I'm not sure if that's what was intended, but it does contain several key ideas about wishing the mundane away and not realising that life is all about the mundane."

Chanandler_Bong_Jr

"This film has a sudden turn for the sad. Like a vast majority of it are your basic Adam Sandler tropes. Yelling. over the top slapstick humor. Farting in David Hasslehof's mouth. Then it goes into the ending. Granted after the depressing stuff, it basically goes back to being your average Adam Sandler movie"

Randym1982

"I'm rightly tired of the pain I hear and feel, boss."

"The Green Mile"

JCarylB

"I remember crying when reading the book. John didn't deserve it..."

GoldH2O

"On the day of my judgement, when I stand before God..."

"That whole scene is so heartbreaking. John feeling all the horror of humankind and wanting to be set free. Paul all the while dispairing for his soul."

"And as if that wasn't enough, seeing him lying in bed awake at the very end..."

"It's one of my all time favourite sad movies."

War Is A Real Thing

"Atonement, it's brutally sad."

adubiousspeculation

"Incredible acting, McAvoy is brilliant and the one shot beach scene is legend, but I'm gutted even to think of that story."

sweetfolly

"Ugh I forgot about this one. Just gutting. I keep telling myself that's the reality of war and was inevitable, but I'm still so mad at it."

crabbingforapples

Feeling sad after a film isn't a bad thing. It means that something connected, that you felt something, and that's good. Emotional resonance is what we want in our entertainment, to feel like what we're devouring has meaning.

And nothing means more than a few shed tears for people who never existed.

People Break Down The 'Silent Red Flags' Folks Tend To Ignore In Relationships

A red flag has come to mean any warning sign in life, in addition to the literal red flags that are placed on beaches or industrial sites to warn people of danger.

People will respond to situations by saying, "That’s a red flag." But before that language evolved, they'd just call them "warning signs."
