Dateline reporter Keith Morrison has made his first public post about his stepson Matthew Perry following the actor's death a month ago.
Morrison married Perry's mother Suzanne in 1981 when Perry was 12 years old, nearly a decade after Suzanne's divorce from Perry's father, John Bennett Perry.
On Monday, Morrison took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a special message, urging people to donate to the Matthew Perry Foundation on Giving Tuesday to honor the late actor.
He wrote:
"This is not the sort of thing I commonly do, this pitch."
"But this year is different. And tomorrow is Giving Tuesday."
"Do what you can; he would have been grateful."
Morrison included a link to the donation page.
The foundation was created following the actor's death in an effort to continue Perry's work in helping others struggling with addiction.
Its mission is stated:
"The Matthew Perry Foundation is the realization of Matthew's enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction."
"It will honor his legacy and be guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible."
Viewers of Morrison's tweet shared their condolences with the reporter, with many vowing to donate to the organization.
@dateline_keith As someone who used to shove 10 Oxy's up my nose a day (and is still wondering how I survived it)... as someone who laughed with Friends and cried on Audibles as Matthew read his book... as someone who used to tune in to see you, Keith, deliver me the local L.A. news and now\u2026— (@)
Following Perry's death, his family issued a joint statement to Peopleexpressing their heartbreak and sharing their gratitude for fans' support.
"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother."
"Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend."
The statement concluded:
"You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love."
Morrison himself has publicly gushed over Perry in the past.
In 2017 while appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the host asked his favorite thing about being Perry's stepdad, to which he replied:
"Where should I start?"
"I mean, there are dozens of them."
He added:
"He's really, a very good guy."
Morrison also shared that Perry once gifted him a car.
"It was a [Porsche] 911, and I still drive it around."
