Two years after the 2018 midterms nearly saw Democrat Beto O'Rourke ascend to the Senate to represent the reliably red state of Texas, the Lone Star State is once again seeing a closer race than most Republicans would have predicted four years ago.

MJ Hegar—the Democratic former fighter pilot whose ad, "Doors," went viral in 2018—will face off against incumbent Republican Senator John Cornyn.

In the past, Hegar hasn't minced words in evaluating how Cornyn has represented Texas, calling him a "spineless bootlicker."

Hegar's resolve hasn't changed, according to a Monday night response to a tweet from Cornyn.

The incumbent Senator was blasting Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who announced that he'd be forcing a vote to adjourn the Senate until after the election, in hopes of holding off the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

Cornyn accused Schumer of blocking the possibility of further pandemic relief before the election, not acknowledging that it was Senate Republicans who chose to prioritize Barrett's nomination over the long-stalled relief talks—against the will of 74 percent of Americans. The House of Representatives also passed another pandemic relief package over 100 days ago, which has since been sitting on the desk of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

They passed an updated, less expensive version of the package at the beginning of October, but Senate Republicans still refuse to consider it.

Cornyn attempted to best Hegar by calling on her to urge Schumer to reconsider.

That's when Hegar reminded him why she was running in the first place.

Twitter users praised the masterful comeback.

As a result, even more people began urging Texans to vote for Hegar's place in the Senate.

Cornyn still holds a lead over Hegar, but multiple polls have shown the race tightening. The Cook Political Report recently shifted the Texas Senate race from "likely Republican" to "leans Republican."
