Maisie Williams recently talked about the effects of growing up and coming of age while filming Game of Thrones during an interview with Vogue.

The actress, who played Arya Stark on the show, revealed that it wasn't always easy to play the character.

Her developing body made disguising herself as a boy for the role difficult and uncomfortable, and left her feeling some pretty negative feelings about her body.

Williams began work on the show in 2010, when she was 14, playing a much younger role. The constant struggle to make her look younger than her real age took its toll on her confidence and self image.

The actress told Vogue:

"A couple of seasons in the middle, maybe around season 2 or 3, my body started to mature and I started to become a woman, but Arya was still very much trying to be disguised as a boy, and I had really short hair, and they'd constantly cover me in dirt and shade my nose so it looked really broad and I looked really manly."

The methods used to disguise her growing curves were a point of discomfort for Maisie, too.

"And they'd also put this strap across my chest to flatten any growth that had started. And that just felt horrible for six months of the year, and I felt a bit ashamed for a while."

Vogue's interview followed Maisie around Paris for fashion week.

The actress explained her new style choices now that she has complete freedom over her look.

"In this new phase of my style it's nice to look more feminine, have a real waistline, and, you know, embrace the body I have."

That exploration to find her own unique style that embraces her femininity has been quite the journey.

In addition to new fashion choices, Maisie has also experimented with fun hair colors since filming for Game of Thrones ended.

Couples looks with boyfriend Reuben Selby are also part of her repertoire now.

Even Maisie's more recent modeling looks are extra bold and beautiful.

Williams has also had several other notable roles during her acting career, including a recurring role in the BBC series Doctor Who as the mysterious Ashildr.

She was also a guest on Ru Paul's Drag Race UK this year, where she rocked pink hair and a beautiful dress.

She is set to appear as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane in the upcoming and long-awaited New Mutants which is currently in post-production and will be released next year.

Maisie certainly hasn't let the uncertainty and discomforts from her time as Arya Stark stop her from enjoying her career and exploring her identity as an actress and a woman.
