NBC Just Roasted The 'Don't Worry Darling' Press Tour With A Legendary 'Parks & Rec' Scene

The media circus that unfolded at the Venice Film Festival as the press tour for Olivia Wilde's scandal-plagued Don't Worry Darling got underway captivated the internet over the holiday weekend. And the furor shows no signs of letting up any time soon.

Even NBC has gotten into the social media joke fest.

The television network roasted the Don't Worry Darling cast with a shady tweet referencing a similarly messy press launch on the show Parks & Rec.

You can see NBC's jab here:

NBC captioned its tweet simply, "don’t worry darling 2022 press tour" along with a classic Parks & Rec clip featuring the disastrous launch of character Leslie Knope's 2012 campaign for city council of Pawnee, Indiana.

Giphy

In the scene, from the season four episode "The Comeback Kid," Knope, played by Amy Poehler, thinks her big campaign event is going to be on a basketball court.

But due to a mix-up, it's actually on a hockey rink--which seems sort of prescient now, given the "Four Seasons Total Landscaping" fiasco former Republican President Donald Trump's campaign got itself into in 2020.

Anyway, hijinx ensue when Knope and her team attempt to get to the dais for her speech, but can't because, you know, they're on ice. Instead of a graceful campaign launch, the entire crew ends up sliding around and launching into a couple face-plants.

All in all, a pretty apt metaphor for Don't Worry Darling's messy, messy production and launch, which has been such a fiasco that the film's Wikipedia page has an entire section dedicated to the "on-set conflicts"—which is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this film's drama and controversy.

And its big premier at Venice saw no end to the messiness.

Star Florence Pugh, rumored to be on bad terms with Wilde, barely participated in the film's presence at the festival beyond attending its premiere screening—which culminated in an incident in which star Harry Styles was accused by observers of spitting on co-star Chris Pine.

He didn't, BTW.

On Twitter, people loved NBC's shady drag of the film's launch.

Here's hoping the rest of Don't Worry Darling's festival tour goes more smoothly.
