'White Lotus' Star Carrie Coon Gives Mic Drop Reason Why She's Willing To Speak Out About Trump

The actor opened up on The View about her political views and how it can be tricky to navigate when someone you care about is a Trump supporter—but why she feels it's important to speak up.

In an appearance on The View, actor Carrie Coon—a star on HBO's hit shows The White Lotus and The Gilded Age—spoke about her political views and how it can be tricky to navigate when someone you care about supports Donald Trump, summing up her reason for speaking out against him in just four simple words.

In the third season of The White Lotus, Coon’s character Laurie broaches the topic during an uncomfortable dinner with her childhood friends Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and Kate (Leslie Bibb) while vacationing together. Tensions later rise when Laurie and Jaclyn learn that Kate is now a Republican and voted for Trump—a scene that was conceived and filmed well before Trump’s re-election.

Coon said it is possible to be friends with Trump supporters, though she admitted she fails to see logic in their views when it comes to social and current events:

"I had family members who voted for Trump — I'm from Ohio, we had to have those conversations. Not my immediate family."
"I think there was a time when it was possible to have conversations about it, but when you're in an authoritarian slide, it becomes a closed system. The leader is the source of information, that is not penetrable. So when you're inside of that circular information system, then it's very hard."
"It's very hard to talk about anything, because there's no basis in fact. And now we're seeing the defunding of the NIH and the NSF, so, like, science, which I believe in science. There's no middle ground there."

Coon also doubted that Trump's supporters will eventually turn on him:

“I think narrative is very powerful, and it’s very easy to teach them that they should blame immigrants or trans people while billionaires are picking their pocket.”

And when The View's hosts thanked her for speaking out on the program considering that many in her situation tend to keep their political opinions to themselves for fear of social backlash, Coon gave the following mic-drop response.

"I'm a mom first."

Conservative mouthpieces Candace Owens and Meghan McCain are feuding over the late far-right activist Charlie Kirk, and things got really messy after Owens shared one of Kirk's alleged text messages to her.

Kirk was assassinated in September while speaking at an event in Utah. In the months since, Owens has distanced herself from many figures on the far right, accusing them of exploiting his legacy—at times even sharing private communications she had with him.

Trump Just Responded To Top Counterterrorism Official's Damning Resignation Letter In Peak Trump Fashion

President Donald Trump was criticized for his response to the resignation of National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent over the war in Iran, saying the country "posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby."

Kent, a former Green Beret and political candidate with ties to right-wing extremists, was confirmed last July in a 52–44 vote to lead the National Counterterrorism Center, where he oversaw efforts to analyze and detect terrorist threats.

Gavin Newsom's Wife Claps Back Hard In Viral Video After Trump Mocks Newsom's Learning Disability

Jennifer Siebel Newsom—the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom—criticized President Donald Trump after he claimed her husband's dyslexia should disqualify him from being president, calling Trump's comments "extremely ignorant and offensive."

Newsom has frequently spoken about living with dyslexia, a common learning disability that can make reading more difficult and affect spelling and speech. He has said he prefers not to rely on teleprompters because of the condition, and wrote in a recent memoir that, when he was younger, he overcompensated by memorizing “pretentious words.”

Gellar reveals reason for Buffy reboot ax

Sarah Michelle Gellar is finally pulling back the curtain on why Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s planned return was abruptly shut down—and the explanation is raising eyebrows.

In a new interview with People, Gellar pointed to a single Hulu executive who, she claims, simply didn’t like the original series, effectively halting the planned continuation show Buffy: New Sunnydale in its tracks—an ending that feels less like a heroic finale and more like a stake through a vampire’s heart.
