YouTube Headquarters 'Active Shooter': What We Know So Far

There are reports of an active shooter at YouTube's headquarters in San Bruno, California. There has been no confirmation of an attack or of any victims at the building. The first reports of the shooting came in just after 1 p.m. Pacific time on April 3. A YouTube employee, Vadim Lavrusik, tweeted, "Active shooter at YouTube HQ. Heard shots and saw people running while at my desk. Now barricaded inside a room with coworkers." Around 15 minutes later, Lavrusik tweeted that he had been safely evacuated from the building.

The video streaming site is based at 901 Cherry Avenue in San Bruno, on the outskirts of San Francisco. The local police department is asking people to avoid the area around the building merely saying that there is "activity" in the area. Shortly afterward, the department confirmed that they are "responding to an active shooter."

The San Mateo County Sheriff's office is on scene along with the San Bruno Police Department. The company, which is owned by Google, employs around 1,700, people at the complex. In a statement, Google said, "Re: YouTube situation, we are coordinating with authorities and will provide official information here from Google and YouTube as it becomes available."

NBC Bay Area has referred to the "shooting" has occurring "near" the YouTube campus. Speaking to ABC San Francisco, an employee confirmed that an evacuation had taken place at the building.
