In the middle of a global crisis, there are bound to be some serious opportunists.

Take the case of Gretchen S. Anthony, her disappearance, and her estranged husband, David Anthony.

Gretchen is missing and presumed dead and her estranged husband was arrested for her murder. The Jupiter Police Department posted about the case on their Facebook page after previously posting information seeking the public's help in finding Gretchen.

You can see their Facebook post here:

Their post read:

"Update!! Missing Person/Homicide Arrest"
"The Jupiter Police Department is asking for your help with any information regarding the whereabouts of Gretchen S. Anthony."
"Detectives are still actively investigating her disappearance and related homicide as outlined in the events below:"
"On March 26, 2020 the Jupiter Police Department responded to the residence of Gretchen Anthony after members of her family reported her missing. As the investigation progressed and further evidence collected, it is believed David E. Anthony is responsible for her disappearance and related homicide which was determined to have occurred on March 21, 2020."
"Gretchen's vehicle, a dark blue Mini Cooper, was recovered in the parking lot of the Jupiter Medical Center; however, Gretchen was not located within this area. During the investigation, a cadaver dog was utilized and alerted within the residence of Gretchen Anthony."
"On March 31, 2020 detectives located David Anthony and his vehicle, a black Nissan Frontier, in Las Cruces, New Mexico where he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping. While processing his vehicle for evidence, a cadaver dog also alerted on David's truck."
"David Anthony is still in New Mexico waiting to be extradited back to Palm Beach County."
"Investigators are still trying to locate the whereabouts of Gretchen Anthony and are hoping the public may have seen or heard something related to this case."
"Other identifiable information:"
"Gretchen and David Anthony as shown in photo."
"David Anthony frequently took his dog with him to public places, a black and white Husky, as seen in the photo."
"David Anthony occasionally placed a magnetic FPL sticker to the side of his truck."
"We are urging anyone with information about this case to call the Jupiter Police Department at 561-741-2235."
"David Anthony, Gretchen's husband, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping in connection to his wife's death."

But how police came to that conclusion is a roller coaster.

On March 25, a witness contacted police in Jupiter, Florida saying she'd received a "suspicious text message" from Gretchen Anthony.

The text said that Gretchen had tested positive for the virus currently ravaging the world and was being "held by the CDC" at the Jupiter Medical Center. However, the text didn't read like any they'd received from Gretchen before – it read more like David's handiwork.

Anthony and her husband, David, were recently separated and had filed for divorce according to the witness.

After receiving the text from Gretchen's phone on the morning of March 23, the witness never heard from her again.

On March 26, Gretchen was reported missing.

"On March 26, 2020, the Jupiter Police Department responded to the residence of Gretchen Anthony after members of her family reported her missing. As the investigation progressed and further evidence collected, it is believed David E. Anthony is responsible for her disappearance and related homicide which was determined to have occurred on March 21, 2020."

Jupiter Medical Center was unable to find any trace of Gretchen in their system.

And then, a neighbor reported she'd heard a "blood-curdling scream" and a woman saying "No! No it hurts," coming from Gretchen's home.

Upon further investigation, her insurance showed no claims from Jupiter Medical Center.

After pinging her cell phone, they traced her last location to be in Pensacola, where David Anthony was spotted trying to sell a bag of women's jewelry.

Gretchen Anthony remains missing, but her husband David will be extradited from New Mexico to Florida to await trial for her homicide.

Anyone with information about this case should call the Jupiter Police Department at 561-741-2235.
