On the Thursday, March 26, broadcast of the Today show, Hoda Kotb interviewed host Savannah Guthrie about her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, in the early hours of February 1, 2026.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the night of January 31. Surveillance footage then showed a masked individual disconnecting her home security camera around 1:47 am.
During the emotional interview, Savannah shared a difficult conversation she had with her older brother Camron Guthrie. The eldest of the three Guthrie siblings, Camron is a retired F-16 fighter pilot with experience in military intelligence.
Savannah Guthrie said she'd speculated about why her mother was abducted and ran her theory past her older brother.
Guthrie told Hotb:
"I said, 'Do you think [it was] because of me?' And he said, 'I’m sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe.' But I knew that. I hope not. I mean, we still don’t know. Honestly, we don’t know anything."
She explained:
"So I don't know that it's because she's my mom and somebody thought, 'That lady has money, we could make a quick buck.' I mean, that would make sense, but we don’t know."
Guthrie added:
"It's too much to bear, to think that I brought this to her bedside, that it's because of me."
Guthrie then apologized to her family, saying:
"And I just have to say: 'I’m so sorry, mommy. I am so sorry.' I’m sorry to my sister, and my brother, and my kids, and my nephew, and Tommy, my brother-in-law. I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry."
While, according to Savannah, she asked the question and her brother did try to soften his response, the public is still upset over his honesty.

The Pima County and Tucson affiliate of Arizona Crime Stoppers, the FBI, and several other organizations and individuals have offered rewards for information about Nancy Guthrie's current location and her abduction.
The Guthrie family also announced they were offering $1 million for information to help find their mother Nancy.
