People Break Down Which Groups Of People Get Too Much Hate

Why do people seem to waste their time judging what other people do and say, especially if they're not actually hurting anyone?

It's one of life's greatest mysteries, even if we as a society have agreed to greet anyone who defends the eighth season of Game of Thrones with collective disdain. (What was up with that writing? Seriously, explain it to me. See? You don't have an answer, just as we figured.)

Redditor MrStrangeIsStrange asked the online community,

"What group of people get too much hate? Why?"

"People don't understand..."

Fat people, even when they're trying to put their health first. I've heard so many stories of fat people going to the gym or going for a run, only to get made fun of or called a "whale."

People don't understand that while losing weight is usually simple, that doesn't mean it's easy. There are a whole host of mental blocks, lifelong habits, socioeconomic factors, and mental or physical health conditions that contribute to gaining and maintaining a higher weight.

If you've ever been fat, you know not to judge. Even if you've lost that weight, you understand how much of a struggle it is to both be fat and to lose weight. But not everyone does, unfortunately, and so they think of fat people as inherently lazy and morally hedonistic.

It sucks.

"People ought to like the things..."

Folks with excentric hobbies. Ain't no harm in that. People ought to like the things they want to like without judgement provided it doesn't cause harm.

"Nobody cares about us..."

Middle age women. Nobody cares about us even if a lot of us are really busy working full time, raising kids, taking care of our elderly parents, volunteering... But because we don't all look like Kate Beckinsale we are rarely appreciated. We are so uncool that everything we like is ridiculed. If I drink a glass of wine I'm a drunk, if I like cats, I'm a crazy cat lady...

We are just like any group of people. We are all different with different likes and dislikes. It's not because we are the same age that we like the same things.

"While it's not my choice..."

While it's not my choice of reading material, I've never quite understood the hate towards YA books and those who read them.

The_Tell_Tale_Heart

"Not all people..."

People who like anime. Not all people who like anime are those weird annoying weeb kids but because it's so common, liking anime gets associated with that.

"We are literally..."

Cosplayers. We are literally dressed like Disney characters and we aren't using our hobby to hurt anyone and we are doing it for fun.

"And, amazingly..."

Sick people.

Get hate for using too many medications (big pharma, woohoo, pardon me but I'd rather stay alive), get hate for not accepting every alt. cure (can't exercise, can't do yoga, can't use saunas...the list goes on), get hate from anti-vaxxers, get hate for apparently 'faking' our illnesses.

And, amazingly, walk out with joint braces on or a feeding tube on your face and you'll get some of the dirtiest looks of your life. Just...what the f***?

"I do understand that collectors..."

Collectors. Like, a collector who likes Funko Pops for example. Why hate them? Because you're envious or something?

I do understand that collectors, depending on who they are, can be kinda bad to have around. The kind of collectors I personally favor are collectors who preserve things like video games.

Nyficus

"I am not a gamer..."

Gamers, like World of Warcraft type. I am not a gamer, but every now and then I'll see a gamer gang in public and just nod with a smile. They are so happy with each other it makes me happy for them.

chunkydunky814

"Pretty much anything they enjoy..."

Teenage girls. Pretty much everything they enjoy gets vilified to the point where a lot of them end up internalizing the misogyny and end up suppressing big parts of their personality so they don't get seen as a "vapid girl". It doesn't make any sense - plenty of things teenage boys are into are vapid and pointless (not shaming, I'm into some stupid stuff too), but they don't get treated like they are whats wrong with society for it.
