First Lady Melania Trump celebrated her 48th birthday on Thursday and her husband, President Donald Trump, went on Fox & Friends to explain that he was "very busy to be running out looking for presents."
During his half-hour interview, the president told the panel of hosts that he decided to go on the air in honor of his wife's birthday. When asked if he got her a gift, Trump gave the most Trumpian answer possible. "I picked a very, very special day because it's Melania's birthday so I said, let's do it on Melania's birthday," he said. "So happy birthday to Melania."
"Well, I better not get into that 'cause I may get in trouble. Maybe I didn't get her so much. I tell you what she has done, I got her a beautiful card. You know I'm very busy to be running out looking for presents, OK? But I got her a beautiful card and some beautiful flowers."
The First Lady's birthday comprised a small chunk of the president's tirade against the justice system and Democrats. But much of Trump's attention has been drawn to musician Kanye West, who showered the president with praise on Twitter on Wednesday. The hip-hop artist issued a series of bizarre tweets in which he said that he and Trump are "dragon energy."
Trump was, as expected, appreciative of the flattery.
Twitter users panned Trump for his dismissal of his wife's birthday. And they were brutal.
