A wild TikTok video is showing what things look like when you leave a bar at midnight, but it’s still light out. And there’s nowhere else in the United States can you get that kind of experience but Alaska.

Tiktokker @jennababyy.1 shared a video of her and her friends out drinking, with the video having a caption of: “bars in alaska at 11pm”

And it looks pretty fun.

In Anchorage, Alaska, there is a period in the summer months when there’s 24 hours of daylight.

The video shows that @jennababyy.1 and her friends are able to barhop, and get some street food with ease thanks to the daylight. This is despite it being close to midnight.

If you weren’t aware of the context, it might just look like some friends day drinking, with only a few people on the street.

The midnight sun might be jarring, but there’s no denying it’s captivating.

Bright skies, and a bustling culture can disrupt peoples sleep cycle, making people stay up way later than they otherwise would.

But there’s ways to try and help it out. Most citizens in the town will use blackout curtains to cut back on light and allow for easier sleep.

It’s bizarre.

The reverse in the winter is just as maddening. Polar night with no daylight provides at most, a little twilight in the middle of the day. It’s an experience that can last for two months and often leads to increased isolation and depression.

Because of these two solar events, towns that close to the north often get tourists who come to experience the midnight sun and polar night.

Though some people would prefer not to do that.

The strange timeframes for people can cause some shifts in how society reacts to time. Many see the unchanging day/night as a moment to wake up when they want, and go to sleep when they feel like it.

So a little “day drinking” at 11pm is hardly the strangest thing you’ll see if you ever go visit.
