Before getting a tattoo, a person should always be sure what they are getting is something they want permanently imprinted on their skin.

Otherwise, they might be in for a lifetime of embarrassment.

TikToker @murphyandmay's husband learned this the hard way when he tried to get the date of his wedding tattooed on his arm only to realize an error negated the tattoo's meaning altogether.

He attempted to get it tattooed in roman numerals.

The date of the couple's anniversary is January 1st, 2019 or 1.1.2019.

The husband got the numerals "XICMXIX" tattooed on his arm.

I knew I should have googled it for him 😭 #murphyandmay #tattoofail #husbandfail #fyp #foryoupage #husbandsoftiktok #husbandcheck #firstanniversary

Unfortunately, when translated they do not mean a date.

They simply mean "11,919."

Some people said getting matching tattoos with a significant other was always going to lead to disaster.

"It jinxes the relationship," wrote one superstitious user.

"I know too many who have matching and are either no longer together or they argue and fight all the time.”

So just remember, always check and double check what you are about to have permanently drawn on your body is exactly what you wanted to have permanently drawn.

Otherwise, you'll have a permanent visual story on your skin for the rest of your life.

And should you decide on a Roman numeral tattoo, use a handy date converter like this one.
