Dem Rep. Hilariously Trolls Trump For Fixation On Canada And Greenland Instead Of Lowering Costs

Rep. Eric Swalwell keeps trolling Donald Trump for threatening to take over Canada and Greenland instead of lowering grocery prices as he promised during the campaign.

California Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell had social media users cackling after he trolled President-elect Donald Trump over his threats to take over Canada and Greenland rather than lowering grocery prices as he promised during the campaign.

Swalwell is the latest politician to respond to Trump over the matter since he made headlines for jabbing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with remarks about Canadian statehood and calling "the ownership and control of Greenland" an "absolute necessity."

But Swalwell isn't too interested in that, writing the following in a post on X, formerly Twitter:

"I don’t care if Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland. I just want to know what he’s going to do to lower the cost of groceries."

You can see his post below.

Indeed, Trump pledged for months that he would lower grocery prices. Trump has acknowledged this, saying in remarks to Meet the Press host Kristen Welker that "when you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time, and I won an election based on that," adding "we're going to bring those prices way down."

But it's also worth noting that shortly after he said that, he admitted to Time magazine that it's "very hard" to actually lower grocery prices.

Trump, who was named the publication's Person of the Year for the second time, stated that one of the key issues Democrats and particularly his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, failed to grasp about the American people is that "they want to be able to buy groceries at a reasonable price and not have to turn off their heat in order to buy two apples."

However, when pressed on whether he could lower grocery costs once in office, Trump acknowledged that he couldn't simply wave a wand to make it happen, even though many of his supporters backed him based on his promises to reduce the cost of living.

Later, Swalwell shared a screenshot of a post by the GOP majority on the House Foreign Affairs Committee praising Trump's calls for territorial expansion, quipping:

"The promise: cheaper eggs. Reality: multiple wars."

You can see his post below.

Swalwell proceeded to mock MAGA adherents who've said Trump would be best equipped to put an end to an era of "endless wars," writing:

"Stop endless wars! Let’s invade Canada and Greenland!"

He then made the following remark to underscore exactly what Trump is doing when he makes these threats:

"Guys, it’s so obvious. Trump has no idea how to lower your cost of groceries. So he’s going to distract you by sending your kids to die fighting Canada."

You can see his post below.

And hilariously, he shared another screenshot, this one of a Fox News article about his own tweets, and said:

"Don’t question your leaders!"

People loved Swalwell's snarkiness—and pointed out that in the end, Trump did what he does best: Lie.

Trump first brought up the idea of annexing Canada during a November meeting with Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago over Trump's threat to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico and has since inflamed tensions by referring to Trudeau as the governor of the “great state of Canada."

Trudeau issued remarks on Thursday, dismissing Trump's comments about turning Canada into the United States' 51st state as a diversion from the fallout of Trump's tariff threats. Trudeau, who announced earlier this week his plans to resign as prime minister after his party selects a successor, firmly stated in an interview with CNN that Canada becoming another U.S. state was "not going to happen."

Last month, Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede said "Greenland is ours" and "not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom."

An incursion into Greenland, an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, would lead to heightened tensions across Europe because as one of the Overseas Countries and Territories of the European Union, Greenland’s citizens are also recognized as EU citizens.

It might be 2026, but there are still people out there with totally unattainable—and biologically impossible—standards for women and their bodies.

A key example is shaming a woman for not having a totally flat stomach. Meanwhile, this is a totally normal feature of a woman's body because it is where a woman's uterus is, and what we're seeing from the outside is the body's protective barrier for that and other organs.
