'Barbie' Fans Are Furious After Margot Robbie And Greta Gerwig Were Snubbed By The Oscars

Despite the movie getting multiple nods, including for actors Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, 'Barbie' fans weren't pleased that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig didn't get nominations for Best Actress and Best Director, respectively.

People on social media are fuming after Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig didn't receive Oscar nominations for Best Actress and Best Director, respectively, for their work on their box-office monster Barbie.

The film did see other nominations, however, including Best Picture. America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling were both nominated for their supporting roles, and the film also received a nomination in the adapted screenplay category and two for original songs. Other nominations included those for both costume and production design.

But the masses were absolutely livid over the Gerwig and Robbie snubs, and they took to social media to vent.

Fans could not believe that the leading woman in the film that grossed $1.45 billion did not get a single Oscar nod.

And they were equally as enraged over Gerwig's name being noticeably absent from the Best Director category.

Gosling being nominated while Gerwig and Robbie were not pretty much paralleled the message of the film.

Ferrera and Gosling both released statements following their nominations, and both made it clear they were disappointed that Gerwig and Robbie were not nominated, as well.

Ferrera told Variety:

“I was incredibly disappointed that they weren’t nominated. Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it."
"What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable. One of the things about Margot as an actress is how easy she makes everything look.”

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Ryan Gosling echoed Ferrera's dismay.

"There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no 'Barbie' movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film."
"No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius."

We couldn't have said it better!
