Dan Levy Puts Comedy Central India On Blast For Censoring Same-Sex Kiss On 'Schitt's Creek'

One of Dan Levy's intentions when writing Schitt's Creek was to exclude any and all homophobia from the narrative.

Therefore, when Comedy Central India committed an active act of homophobia by censoring the kiss between David Rose (Levy) and Ted Mullens (Dustin Milligan) during a spin-the-bottle scene on the show, Levy was quick to call them out.

Immediately other fans of the series began calling for Comedy Central India to take responsibility for their homophobia.

The 6th and final season of Schitt's Creek ended with the wedding between David Rose & Patrick Brewer (Noah Reid), leading to questions of how much of that plotline Comedy Central India is planning to censor.

India's stance on LGBTQ+ rights is shaky, at best.

In 2018, the India Supreme Court struck down Section 377, a law that criminalized same-sex relationships in India, but harassment faced by LGBTQ+ people is still prevalent.

Comedy Central India has not yet responded to Levy's call-out. But that doesn't mean his gesture has gone unnoticed.

Wrote one user:

"In one tweet, you just told Indian gay people they are seen, loved, and they matter."

"Your voice and your beautiful, amazing, hopeful and love filled show is shining blinding light into the darkest corners of India."

Here's hoping LGBTQ+ people in India can feel validated by Levy's work.
