People Explain Which Movies Are Universally Loved

People Explain Which Movies Are Universally Loved
Warner Bros.

Cinephiles are more discerning than the average moviegoer. Some might even argue they're cine-snobs, when in fact, they are passionate about good filmmaking, performances, and directing.

But some casual audience members can still recognize a quality film without possessing extensive knowledge about the history of cinema.

Curious to hear about the common ground shared by film aficionados and neophytes alike, Redditor Identify_me_please asked:

"What’s a movie nobody hates?"

The animated films got a lot of love.

Another Stephen King Classic

"Stand by Me."

– woganpuck

So E.T. is in theaters again to commemorate 40 years since its original theatrical release.

I have to say, no matter how old you are, or how often you've seen it, that Steven Spielberg sci-fi adventure is a masterpiece and still delivers an emotional gut punch.

I saw it recently on the big screen, and the audience members–consisting of teens seeing it for the first time with their friends and parents who are sharing their favorite childhood film with their own kids–were clearly enjoying the movie and there was actual applause during the credit roll at the end.

There was not a dry eye in the house.

Now that's a movie people would have a hard time NOT loving.
