People Share The Wisest Thing Someone Ever Told Them

Wise. You're just wise....

Always listen closely. We glide through life just missing treasures that could help us stay the course or change it all together. We're all full of wisdom, each and every person, we just don't stand still long enough to embrace the good. The universe will send the lessons we need all in good time and through vessels we least expect. Let's discuss some of the greatest wise morsels thrown our way.

Redditor u/TheMasterSlayer1 wanted to hear what advice and sage words have been shared that the rest of us need to hear by asking.... What is the wisest thing somebody has ever told you?

Snip, snip here...

I like "if you hang around a barbershop long enough, you'll end up getting a haircut" meaning, if you hang around a certain type of person long enough, they'll impact you eventually. ThriftAllDay

HAHAHAHA.....

If you can laugh at yourself, you'll always have something to laugh about.

Don't remember who told me that, don't know if they were quoting someone, but it stuck. roberto10992

Also it's good because it's hard to get bullied because you learn to just laugh it off. The more you don't care, the harder it is to be hurt emotionally at least. Uh_bruj

Not for Everyone....

When I was really young, my father told me this gem, when I was upset about being teased at school: "No matter how nice and kind you are; there are always going to be people who don't like you or appreciate what you do." I forget if there was anything else he added afterward.

It does sound pessimistic, however I internalized it as, to continuing being kind, and not letting a harsh response or cruel treatment bring me down.I think my dad was trying to teach me not to put too much worth into how much worth others put on me, but focus on my own self worth. Ultimately, in my own perspective, it did help me keep a positive attitude on life.

Update: OMG I was not expecting so many replies! I'll try to catch up and upvote everybody. Thank you for your input and the karma! Leporidae91

And then there's you...

A smart man learns from his own mistakes, a wise man learns from the mistakes of others. Luck is where preparation meets opportunity. RickySlayer9

I use this one a lot in a professional setting, but my take on it is this:

"A smart person learns from their mistakes.

A wise person learns from others'.

And then there's you..." jDubbaYo

Prep.....

Lack of preparation on your part doesn't call for an emergency on mine. kj_SmrtAlc

Don't confuse hard work with good work.

Or, said another way, don't confuse working hard with working smart. TheSquirrelWithin

Humans are inherently self serving. I can't remember where I heard it but I've never forgotten it. Whether one sees this as a good or bad thing says a decent amount about them. Which_Hedgehog

Gavin Newsom Just Epically Trolled Kristi Noem With A Fake 'Dog Obedience School' Ad

California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom focused his trolling of the administration of MAGA Republican President Donald Trump on Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, creating a fake dog obedience school ad for the self-professed puppy killer.

In her 2024 memoir, No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward, Noem bragged about shooting and killing her 14-month-old Wire-haired Pointer puppy named Cricket after she failed to train it properly and without trying to rehome the dog to a competent trainer or a hunting dog rescue.

Trump Gives Pious Reminder That The Bible Says To Care For 'Vulnerable Children'—And The Hypocrisy Is Off The Charts

President Donald Trump was called out for hypocrisy after he said during the signing of an executive order expanding resources for the foster care system that the Bible instructs society to care for "vulnerable children and orphans"—only for people to point out that he had denied Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to hungry children just days before.

The loss of SNAP is a result of the Trump administration's failure to spend contingency funds to feed people on the program, a decision that is resulting in a nationwide hunger crisis impacting millions of families.

Conservatives Slam Trump After His Attack On GOP Rep's Marriage Is A Low Blow Even For Him

President Donald Trump has been married three times, but his hypocrisy escaped him entirely when he attacked Kentucky Republican Representative Thomas Massie for getting remarried last month following the death of his first wife in 2024—prompting his own party to call him out for going too far.

Last week, Massie announced he'd married his wife, Carolyn Grace Moffa, in late October. His first wife and "high school sweetheart," Rhonda Howard Massie, died in June 2024.

Video Of Pete Hegseth Screwing 'Department Of War' Sign Onto Building Gets Brutally Mocked

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was widely mocked after the Department of Defense—or shall we say the self-proclaimed "Department of War"—debuted its new plaque by publishing a video showing Hegseth tightening the screws on the new plaque with the words "Department of War" at the Defense Department's River Entrance.

The Pentagon’s rapid response account shared the clip on X along with the following caption:

People Explain The Dumbest Reasons They Had To Call 911

We've all made mistakes from time to time, and some of them have probably been pretty cringy and stupid.

But most of us can take comfort in the fact that we didn't do something so stupid that we had to call 9-1-1 to get us out of trouble.
