People Reveal What Instantly Makes Them Lose Respect For Someone

Respect is a two-way street, and it's much easier lost than gained. Redditors share their favorite instances of when their respect for someone completely collapsed.

violetzinc asked: What makes you instantly lose respect for somebody?

Submissions have been edited for clarity, context, and profanity.

Looking at you, Kanye.

People who dont listen to you and dont care about what you are saying and interrupt you to talk only about their things.

AnaSil

Ima let you finish, but George Bush doesn't care about Beyonce deserving the best record grammy.

The_Quibbler

God my brother will literally ask a question then leave the room halfway through answering it is so annoying.

RhinoInAHat

Unjustified snobbery.

When someone is nice to someone who has high social ranking or some other importance, but they treat regular people, or people they deem to be beneath them, with disdain.

MomNeedsCoffeetoo

"If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."

jcrreddit

Picking on the weak.

Mistreating people, especially those who can't defend themselves.

The_Superfool

This. Going after a co-worker for an easy laugh is f*cked.

dookieshoes1

There's an art to being direct. Meanness isn't part of it.

Anyone who tries to use being blunt or "random" as an excuse to be an a**hole.

varnell_hill

Or insults/personal attacks disguised as "jokes" or random comments. That passive aggressive shit is clear as day.

conquer69

Ok to be fair there is a time and place for this kind of banter usually between two people who know each other well.

Gloryblackjack

Don't.

Littering.

lexara342

Oh man, I've gotten strange looks when I get home, and empty garbage I've had in my pockets for hours. I avoid littering whenever possible.

FreedTMG

I just can't get myself into my mindset where you just drop your sh*t on the side of the road. It is so easy not to litter.

VeganBigMac

Stealing ideas and then screwing them up.

Taking credit for other people's work. Bonus demerits for simultaneously being incompetent in your own work.

andremensch

Eugh, this drives me insane. I used to work for a guy who did this endlessly while also being the biggest brown-noser and rat. He was the absolute worst person I've ever worked with.

TheQueenOfFilth

This isn't something to brag about.

If they brag about a DUI or how much they blew over the legal limit when they got caught drinking and driving.

sophaloaph13

People who aren't still in college actually do this?

GetUpAndGoGorl

I had a university lecturer who, in a class full of future teachers, bragged about getting away with drink driving and criticising how he couldn't do it anymore.

So yeah, people still do this.

mstrimk

Judging others - you're being judged too.

Making offhand remarks about strangers in public, when they are in hearing range. You don't know their life.

gonaforgetmypassword

My mom does this and it's made me realize why I assume everyone else is saying horrible things about me, too

bowbowhey

This works both ways, if you think something nice about strangers instead it helps with the social anxiety.

meowsticality

This is evil.

Treating animals badly.

Just_my__luck

People who abuse animals are pieces of sh*t.

beardsandwiches

Belligerent ignorance.

When they are bragging about being uninformed or misinformed, and not changing their views when confronted with facts. To me, this is the difference between a stupid and ignorant person -- an ignorant person doesn't know something, but is willing to learn or change their view; a stupid person has no desire to learn or evolve in any way, and they think it's admirable.

CoaxedbySnafu

Anti-intellectualism is a pox on our society. So disappointing to see it in someone.

draeth1013

Totally agree but I think ignorant literally means they ignore things, meaning they aren't willing to learn/change their views. I see what you're saying but I feel like it's the other way to be honest.

AOC Saves The Day By Giving Bronx Middle School Group A Tour Of The Capitol Amid Shutdown

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had people cheering after she stepped in to act as tour guide after a group of middle schoolers from the Bronx pulled up to the Capitol hours after the U.S. government officially shut down.

The federal government shut down early Wednesday after the White House and Congress failed to reach an agreement on federal spending. While Senate Democrats are in the minority, they hold enough seats to filibuster and are insisting that Republicans agree to extend federal subsidies for people insured under the Affordable Care Act.

GOP Lawmaker Sparks Outrage After Calling For Dem Rep. To Be Executed For Urging People To Protest Trump

On Wednesday, September 25, an Arizona MAGA Republican state Representative publicly called for the execution of Washington Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal because she urged anyone displeased with MAGA Republican President Donald Trump's job performance to exercise their First Amendment right to free speech and to protest.

Apparently, urging citizens to make their voices heard was a step too far for Arizona state GOP Representative John Gillette, who responded to a clip edited out of a longer video by right-wing account The Patriot Oasis (TPO). A quick scan through Gillette's X account media posts will reveal his political leanings.

Liberal TikToker Mortified After Discovering That Her Therapist Is Hardcore MAGA

There used to be a time where politics did not have to come into every room or be a part of every conversation. But in a world with President Trump and MAGA, it's not as simple as being Red, Blue, or Green anymore.

Now, the sociopolitical climate is dangerous for many people and still very stress-inducing for others. It's important to surround ourselves with people who make us feel safe and seen—and unfortunately, that might mean cutting out people who have "different beliefs" than we do.
