Oscars Called Out For Excluding Star Of Best Picture Nominee From 'In Memoriam' Tribute

Charlbi Dean, who starred in 'Triangle of Sadness,' died at age 32 of bacterial sepsis in August.

Triangle of Sadness star Charlbi Dean passed away due to sepsis in August 2022 at the age of thirty-two.

Her breakout movie, Triangle of Sadness, was nominated for several Oscars including Best Picture. So many expected to see Dean's name listed in the annual In Memoriam tribute.


However, Dean was left out.

"Charlbi Dean—who had a lead role in Triangle of Sadness, a film nominated for three Academy Awards this year, including Best Picture—was not featured in the segment during the live show on Sunday night…"
"A rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences declined to comment on record about the absence of their names."

The writer and director of Triangle of Sadness, Ruben Östlund, talked about Dean's passing.

“It is an honor to have gotten to know and work with her. Charlbi had a care and sensitivity that lifted her colleagues and the entire film crew."
"The thought that she will not be by our side in the future makes me very sad. At this difficult time, my thoughts go out to her loved ones, her family and her fiance Luke.”

Many people took to social media to remember the actress.



A lot of people hadn't realized that Dean passed away.


Others chose to convey their outrage towards the Oscars for leaving her out of the in memoriam.



A few people chose to defend the Oscars for their choice to leave her out.


The sadness over her tragic passing and outrage over her exclusion during the Oscars ceremony was felt by others as well.

Actors Paul Sorvino, Tom Sizemore and Anne Heche were also excluded from the broadcast.
