French Reporter Claps Back At MTG After She Threatened Her Over Her Accent

GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene lashed out over French reporter Sonia Dridi's accent during a press briefing, and Dridi swiftly fired back.

On Friday afternoon, Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene took to Elon Musk's X social media platform to praise Donald Trump's current White House Press Secretary—and spread xenophobia.

Greene shared a post from a MAGA minion with a high follower count. The original post included a clip from a recent White House press briefing.

In addition to giving the current White House mouthpiece Karoline Leavitt kudos, Greene took exception to a Foreign Press Association member's accent.

French BFM TV's Washington correspondent, Sonia Dridi, had asked a question in the clip.

Greene posted:

"How about that accent from that reporter?"
"I think we need to throw out all the foreign press!"
"American media first!"

By Saturday, Greene's threat to oust the foreign press reached the target—Sonia Dridi.

Dridi is a foreign correspondent from France who has been based in Washington D.C. since 2015—six years longer than Greene, who was first elected in 2021. In addition to being a respected journalist, Dridi is an author of political biographies and has produced several award-winning documentaries.

Sharing Greene's post, Dridi wrote:

"Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks I should be thrown out of the press room because of my [French] accent."

Dridi also wrote another post in French for her fellow Francophones.

It translates to English as:

"Greene apparently did not appreciate my accent while I occupied the seat reserved for the few foreign journalists who are in our White House Foreign Press Assoc."
"She now suggests kicking the foreign press out of the newsroom. Ubuesque."

The term Ubuesque is a reference to a character in French pop culture—Père Ubu—from Alfred Jarry's 1896 play Ubu Roi. Referring to someone as Ubuesque is calling them a grotesque, cruel and cowardly character.

People wondered about Greene's opinion of other people with accents.

If Sonia Dridi accent bothers empty G, it should make you wonder what she feels about the first lady's accent.

But most people just called out Greene's xenophobia and ignorance.

French reporter Sonia Dridi asked Karoline Leavitt a question. Marjorie Taylor Greene made a comment about her accent. She then suggested that all foreign press be thrown out of WH press conferences. So much dumb. And for Americans, it's really f*cking dangerous dumb.

And some wondered what might happen if the GOP latches on to Greene's latest grievance.

Greene has yet to respond to Dridi directly.

Jeff Bezos Just Claimed That Trump Is 'More Mature' In His Second Term—And Critics Can't Even

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos sent heads spinning after claiming during a CNBC interview that President Donald Trump is a "more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term."

Bezos, discussing a man who has attacked voting rights multiple times, previously suggested he might try to stay in office indefinitely, and continued to make erratic (and ironic) statements about presidential candidates needing cognitive exams, told anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin that Trump is much more mellow and calmer than he was during the first Trump administration.

College Graduation Ceremony Erupts In Boos After 'New AI System' Allegedly Misses 'Hundreds' Of Graduates' Names

Nothing says innovation quite like replacing a person reading names with a machine that allegedly forgets to read the names.

That's what happened during Glendale Community College's commencement ceremony on Friday at Desert Diamond Arena in Arizona, where a "new AI system" reportedly skipped hundreds of students and displayed incorrect names as diplomas were handed out. In one instance, the name Michael D. Gonzales was announced while two women received their diplomas.

Mandy Moore Finally Spoke Out About That 'Toxic Mom Group' Drama—And She Didn't Hold Back

People might hope that when they make a new friend, they'll be friends for life. But the truth is, most friends will only be there for a reason or a season, like going to school or working together.

For former High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale, that season was new motherhood, a time when she was eager to meet women who understood the questions she had about babies and raising them, but also preferably women who understood what it was like trying to juggle being a successful businesswoman with being a mom, too.

JD Vance Just Tried To Give His Historical Hot Take On Pope Leo's Name—And He Missed The Point Entirely

Vice President JD Vance made a point that seemed pretty obvious to everyone except him when he, mentioning Pope Leo XIV, gave his take on the historical context around the tenure of Pope Leo XIII, who led the Catholic Church from 1878 until 1903.

Speaking at a White House briefing focused on the possible impact of the pope’s upcoming encyclical on artificial intelligence, Vance highlighted the symbolism behind Robert Francis Prevost, the first U.S.-born leader of the Roman Catholic Church, choosing the name Leo XIV.
