Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene is being criticized after she tweeted and then deleted a post linking to her son Derek's Venmo account and told her supporters to buy him "a beer" for his birthday.

Greene, whose ex-husband Perry Greene is the father of her daughters Lauren and Taylore, reportedly has a net worth close to $22 million. She removed the post not long after it drew a wave of critical responses.

She wrote, linking to her son's Venmo account:

“It’s my baby boy’s birthday!! He’s 22!! I love him so much! Buy him a beer!”

But social media users, anticipating a backlash, took screenshots.

You can see her post below.

She was swiftly called out.

It remains uncertain whether Greene personally authored the post or if someone else used her account to direct funds to her son without her knowledge. After the post was deleted, Greene did not follow up with a public birthday message for her son.

Because Derek’s Venmo account was set to private, it’s unknown how much money he may have received from the unusual request. Public records show his birthday is indeed in April.

The post could also draw attention from ethics watchdogs. While it was shared on Greene’s personal account, House rules prohibit members from soliciting gifts. According to the House Ethics Committee: “A Member, officer, or employee may not ask for a gift for themselves or someone else, even if they could otherwise accept it under a Gift Rule exception.”

Greene is in good company when it comes to her colleague, fellow MAGA adherent Lauren Boebert, considering Boebert also once came under fire for having set up a Cameo page to allow fans to purchase video messages from her.

None of us, at this point, should be surprised by the MAGA grift.
