Nobody likes to workout and anybody who says otherwise is lying. Or crazy! Or both! No matter how you feel though exercise is a cornerstone of life and living healthy. We all want to enjoy a long life and unfortunately breaking a sweat is part of the deal. Most life experts say that exercise is best in the morning. In fact be up early every morning is included in many successful people's notes about make the best out of life. "The early bird and the worm and all that."

Redditor u/BaeWatchh wanted advice form Redditor's asking People who choose to get up early and workout, what is your inner talk that motivates you out of bed?

It takes a lot to get out of a comfy bed and at least we know we're not alone in that thought.

DRINK UP!

[rebelmouse-image 18345572 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

10oz water before bed and there's your motivation to get up when the alarm goes off, the habit of walking out the door knowing one hour ahead future you is going to thank present you for getting it done.

A MANTRA?!

[rebelmouse-image 18352778 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

"hey you're fat and ugly, so why not work out and only be ugly?!"

CONSEQUENCES!

[rebelmouse-image 18352780 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I hate it, but I know I'll hate myself even more later that day.

COMMIT! TO YOU!

[rebelmouse-image 18352781 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

This is how I feel about exercising too. I don't like running. But you know what I dislike even more? The feeling of knowing that I laid around in bed for an hour messing around in my phone when i had committed to exercising that day.

PENCILS UP!

[rebelmouse-image 18347353 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

A few things:

  • I put my alarm on the other side of my room so I have to get up to turn it off.
  • While walking to my alarm I say to myself, "You aren't going to feel better if you go back to sleep. You will feel better if you go to the gym now."
  • Like others have said, once you've been doing it 5+ days a week for long enough it becomes a matter of discipline, not motivation. Sometimes I feel too lazy to walk upstairs to brush my teeth but I always absolutely do it, of course.
  • If I really feel crappy and like I won't be any good I tell myself that any workout is better than no workout. Oh, and I always regret it when I don't but never regret it when I do!

MIND OVER MATTER.

[rebelmouse-image 18978636 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I agree that its a matter of discipline. I never realized how much I lack self discipline but everyday I get up will hopefully change that.

I SEE IT ALL!

[rebelmouse-image 18978637 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

That I don't want to be fat. I'm only 4'11 so extra weight is very noticeable. I get up between 4:30 and 5:00 in the morning to work out. It's really the only time I have. It's before my husband goes into work so he's home with our kids. I also only go every other day now so I tell myself that I can rest the following morning. That helps.

SAVING AND GAINING!

[rebelmouse-image 18349588 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I like to have the mindset that working out doesn't cost energy, it gives you energy.

MULTI-TASK!

[rebelmouse-image 18978639 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I have baby calves I feed that are on a fixed schedule anyway. I made a weight lifting set out of some pipe and tractor wheel weights in the barn so I get some reps in

SHUT UP VOICE!

[rebelmouse-image 18978640 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

My inner talk has learned to shut up until I'm done exercising and more awake.

No lie, I am not a morning person at all. The side of me that gets out of bed earlier for exercise is a very primitive and angry part of my brain. If I stop and think about it at all, more sleep will always win.

READY. SET. GO!

[rebelmouse-image 18978641 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Go study!

I just graduated college and I learned one of the hardest parts of any project or upcoming exam is to start. Once you just jump in and start without bargaining with yourself, you will get into it.

Also another thing that helps is I usually throw my phone on the other side of the room and sign out of all social media on my computer.

SPEAK THE TRUTH!

[rebelmouse-image 18978642 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Another heart attack would definitely suck way, WAYY more.

DOING THE SAME THINGS OVER...

[rebelmouse-image 18978643 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I think of all the times I ever felt sorry for myself for not actively trying to make myself better.

WORDS COUNT.

[rebelmouse-image 18347877 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I usually take a deep breath and go "okie dokie let's do this." Not sure if that's helpful.

LOUDER!!! GOOOOOO!!!!!!

[rebelmouse-image 18978644 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Have to wake up at 2 AM for work. Never missed a single day or overslept for it thus far (1 year) and I basically use this mindset.

It's almost like as soon as I shut the alarm off, I have a voice inside me head SCREAMING at me "UP UP UP UP GET UP UP GET UP GET UP GO GO GO GO GO" and that's enough to get me into the shower and wake me up enough to get into my truck and head out for my day.

THAT'S ME!

[rebelmouse-image 18978645 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

Self hatred mostly.

AVOID THE CROWD!

[rebelmouse-image 18978646 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

It's either go early morning and get to use any machine you need or go later and have to stand in actual lines to use the bench. Seriously, forget evenings at gyms near shopping districts and high schools.

NO CHOICE!

[rebelmouse-image 18978647 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I don't really have a choice. I live a mile from my train and sometimes I leave the house late so I have to run.

SIR YES SIR!!

[rebelmouse-image 18978648 is_animated_gif= dam=1 expand=1]

I can hear my old drill sergeant calling us maggots and telling us to drop our c*s and grab our socks. Then I'm grateful it's not snowing outside. Fort Leonard Wood in winter is no bueno.
