In a new interview, former Democratic Secretary of State and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton gave a sobering warning to the American people and legislators in Washington, saying former Republican President Donald Trump will run for President again in 2024 if he is not held accountable.

Clinton went on to paint an alarming scenario of what might happen if he were to win in 2024 as well, saying it could be the end of American democracy.

Clinton spoke about the threat Trump poses during a discussion with NBC's Willie Geist which aired this past Sunday in which she also took the Republican Party to task for allowing Trump's takeover of the American right.

Clinton was unsparing in her words about the threat Trump poses, expressing certainty about Trump running again in 2024 if he is not held accountable for his misdeeds while in office—which include a mounting list of potential criminal charges.

As Clinton put it:
"If I were a betting person, right now I'd say Trump is going to run again. He seems to be setting himself up to do that, and if he's not held accountable, he gets to do it again."

Clinton went on to sound an alarm for what a second Trump presidency would mean for the country.

“I think that could be the end of our democracy."
"Not to be too pointed about it, but I want people to understand that this could be a make-or-break point."
"If he, or someone of his ilk, were once again to be elected president, especially if he had a Congress that would do his bidding, you will not recognize our country."

Clinton also excoriated the Republican Party for enabling Trump at every turn, decrying the Party's cowardice in refusing to push back against the "demagogue" that has taken over their party.

Clinton told Geist:

“Honestly, they have hung their spines up on the wall as they walk into their offices. They have no conscience.”

On Twitter, many people cheered Clinton's stark words about the GOP and Trump.

Clinton also told Geist she at times feels a sense of "responsibility and guilt" for losing the 2016 election and allowing Trump to take power.

Hopefully the American people will heed her warnings about Trump this time.
