Saturday Night Live alum Vanessa Bayer opened up to Stephen Colbert, telling the comedian about what it was like doing a porn star sketch on SNL with Donald Trump.
On Monday's broadcast of The Late Show, Bayer recalled that she was concerned that Trump's presidential ambitions could be harmed by the scene, in which she and costar Cecily Strong participated with then-candidate Trump.
"This could be a documentary," Colbert joked. Yeah, the irony here is really rich.
Bayer recalled her hesitation to do the scene after Trump said he was running for president.
"I think it shows you have a good sense of humor...and then I was like, oh my God, am I sabotaging his campaign? I don't want him to win, but is it gonna be because of the sketch I do showing him with porn stars? And it seems like… oh, that doesn't matter."
Trump is currently mired in lawsuits by adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who claims that she and Trump had an affair in 2006. Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, is suing Trump on a number of fronts, including for defamation of character and over a non-disclosure agreement the actress said she was pressured to sign shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Clifford and her attorney Michael Avenatti claim that the NDA is void because Trump never signed it.
After signing the NDA, Clifford was paid $130,000 by Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen, who initially claimed the funds came from a home equity loan he took out on his Manhattan residence. This turned out to be a lie. Federal investigators found that money linked to a Russian oligarch flowed into Cohen's LLC, which he used to pay Clifford.
In recent weeks, revelations that Trump reimbursed Cohen for the payments, along with numerous other nefarious money transfers to as yet undisclosed parties, which are rumored to be more women, have dominated headlines. Cohen is currently the target of multiple criminal investigations surround his time as Trump's "fixer" and as a vice president of the Trump Organization.
On Tuesday night, news broke that Cohen's business partner Evgeny Friedman in the Manhattan taxi industry, which is notorious for its connections to the mob, plead guilty to tax evasion in New York state and is currently cooperating with the ongoing investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, in which Cohen is currently embroiled. In what is surely bad news for Cohen, Friedman, a Russian immigrant known as the Taxi King, was originally charged with four counts of failing to pay $5 million in taxes. He plead the amount down to $50,000.
Friedman also faced an indictment for grand larceny, for which he won't face any penalties. Friedman was sentenced to probation, which is a drop in the legal bucket for the array of B-felonies with which he was charged. This is a hint at the value his testimony has to Mueller and his team of prosecutors.
