Tanning injections, or the process of injecting melanotan into the skin in order for it to produce more melanin, is a dangerous process that can take a serious toll on the skin and the health of the taker.
Besides artificial simulation of melanin, which can produce melanoma in the user, tanning injections have a number of problematic social and physical side-effects. Dermatologists warn that the injection can cause infection, kidney failure, skin cancer, and erectile dysfunction.
Some people choose to go through with the procedure anyway.

Dylan Wright said that his skin was never the same after the injections.
“The doctors called me an idiot and told me it’s a side effect from the drug, but now I’m stuck with [freckles],” he said.
“I’ve got freckles like I’m in my 50s or 60s. It feels like my skin’s aged.”

Wright spent most of his time commenting on replies to the video, assuring people that getting the injections was not worth it.
