Taylor Swift Dedicates Her VMA For Video Of The Year To 'Ultimate Showgirl' Dolly Parton In Moving Speech

After winning the MTV VMA for Video of the Year on Sunday night for "The Fate of Ophelia," Taylor Swift dedicated the award to the late country icon Dolly Parton.

Taylor Swift has been sweeping headlines in the past few weeks, between becoming a popular internet meme while cheering on her husband and releasing four new songs for a deluxe "Encore" edition of The Life of a Showgirl.

After appearing at the MTV VMAs and winning Video of the Year for her song, "The Fate of Ophelia," she's the talk of the town again, thanks to making a very special dedication.


Upon ascending the stage to accept her award, Swift thanked the team of people involved in her project, and then she dedicated her win to "the ultimate showgirl."

“I want to thank and dedicate this award to one person, without whom just this wouldn’t be happening, and that person is the ultimate showgirl, Dolly Parton."
"Every single song that she wrote, her storytelling was so vivid and so rich. It was like, listening to her songs...it’s like watching the best music video you have ever seen in your life every single time you hear what she has written."
"She handled this thing with such grace and joy and love and gratitude for the fact that she got to do this."
"Everything that happened in her life or her career, she channeled back into love, and gratitude and appreciation for her fans.”
"I'm lucky that I got to be one of them, and I will always be one of them."

The crowd erupted with applause, and after they calmed down, Swift added:

"I think that we were all very lucky to share this world with Dolly Parton for a time."
"Thank you all for this amazing moment. I love you all."
