The actor opened up to Jimmy Fallon about his directorial debut, particularly about breaking his hand while filming the movie's first action sequence.

On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Dev Patel shared the challenges he faced while filming his directorial debut, Monkey Man.

For starters, Patel revealed that he broke his hand while filming the first action scene of the movie.

“Everything that could’ve gone wrong, went wrong."

Despite the injury, Patel opted to continue filming, urging his producer to keep the cameras rolling. The production had to get creative in navigating the setback due to budget constraints, opting for a makeshift medical solution to allow Patel to keep working.

Patel said:

“The doctor put a screw in my hand and he goes, ’You cannot put more than a pound or two of pressure on this thing, otherwise it’s like pulling a bent nail out of wood, you will ruin your bone.”

The crew commemorated the incident with a T-shirt inspired by an X-ray of Patel's hand, jokingly dubbing it "the one screw that kept this production alive."
