Entertainment journalist and Glamour magazine Senior West Coast Editor Jessica Radloff's new book, Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy, shared a story about actor Emily Osment joining the show in its fifth season that's drawing praise for her consideration for her fellow child star, Montana Jordan.
Osment, who began acting at age five, is one of a rare breed in Hollywood—a child star turned successful adult actor. It's a journey many kids have infamously stumbled on, but that Jordan has also successfully navigated perhaps in part thanks to Osment.
At 10, Osment was co-starring as Gerti Giggles in Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and by 14 she was portraying Miley Cyrus' best friend Lilly Truscott on the Disney Channel hit series Hannah Montana.
Unlike many child stars, Osment never really stopped getting acting work, and Jordan hasn't taken a break either since starting to portray Georgie Cooper on Young Sheldon at age 14. He's since transitioned to playing Georgie as an adult alongside Osment in their own series.
The second of three spinoffs of Chuck Lorre's Big Bang Theory might never have happened if their interactions on Young Sheldon had looked awkward or their chemistry was wrong.
When Osment joined the hit CBS show, it was to portray a 29-year-old woman, who said she was 25, who was intimate with 17-year-old Georgie, who said he was 21, resulting in an unplanned pregnancy. Osment, who was 30 at the time, was hyper aware that Jordan, who was 18, was transitioning from childhood to adulthood both onscreen and off.
Uncomfortable with portraying intimacy with someone 12 years her junior who was going to have his first onscreen kissing scene with her, Osment approached producer Tim Marx to request an intimacy coordinator.
She shared:
"That made me uncomfortable. [Jordan] was a baby! A baby with a mullet. My concern wasn’t the discomfort of making out with someone after just meeting them; I’m an actor, so that’s something I’m used to. My discomfort was that he was eighteen."
Production brought one in as soon as possible.

Osment recalled:
"It made everything easier having one there. I think it’s something that’s really important. They just had never thought to hire an intimacy coordinator before."
"I don’t know if Montana even knew if he could ask for that. Like, let’s give him the option, too. Make him comfortable."
Young Sheldon was going into uncharted territory in season five with the new storyline. The show had never had intimate scenes before, but director Alex Reid acknowledged production should have anticipated the need, saying the show "totally dropped the ball."
People appreciated Osment looking out for herself and Jordan.
