Oreo cookies threw some major shade at music artist The Weeknd amidst rumors of the cancellation of his HBO show The Idol .

The Canadian singer and record producer Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye starred and co-created the drama series about an aspiring music idol played by Lily-Rose Depp and her complicated relationship with a cult leader played by himself.

The show received mixed reviews, with many viewers criticizing it for its themes, characterization, and most notably for its gratuitous nudity and graphic sex scenes that were described as "softcore porn."

Although HBO has yet to make an official announcement on the show's future, Pop Crave's Twitter account tweeted The Idol "will reportedly not return for a second season."

This prompted Oreo cookie's official Twitter account to celebrate the unconfirmed possibility of the show's demise by replying:

"Finally some good news."

HBO's communication team immediately put the kibosh on the unfounded claim, tweeting:

"It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The Idol has been determined."
"It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night."

Nevertheless, a week later, The Weeknd retweeted Oreo's post and wrote:

"Oh f'k they been talkin sh*t 🤣"

Twitter users shared their thoughts.



Some showed empathy and supported the "After Hours" singer...



While others couldn't help but chuckle over the shade thrown by America's favorite sandwich cookie.





The Weeknd later expressed there were no hard feelings and wrote a follow-up comment, tweeting:

"naw I can’t beef with you @Oreo too many beautiful memories…"
"I’m dunking you in some champagne tonight."

Oreo then asked the singer not to hate on them, tweeting:

"Abel, you know we'd die for you! please don't hold it against us."

Fans of The Idol can continue watching new episodes of the show on Max (formerly HBO Max) on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. EST.
