One month after her father’s passing, Emilia Van Der Beek shared a heartfelt tribute on March 8, commemorating what would have been James Van Der Beek’s 49th birthday. In a video posted to her mother’s Instagram account, Emilia, age nine, stood outside as she reflected on the loss of her dad.
Her mother, Kimberly Van Der Beek, explained the story behind the post in the caption.
“Emilia asked me if she could make a video to post today, walked outside, and came back with this.”
James Van Der Beek and his wife have six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah, ages 4–15 as of early 2026.
In the video, Emilia said she wanted to share “little tips” for anyone dealing with grief:
“As you will probably know, my dad has passed away, but I’m just going to tell you little tips, or anything that helps you getting through anybody you love’s passing…”
Emilia also shared that she copes with the grief of her father’s death, in part, by letting her “emotions out” through daily conversations with him.
She described how she stays connected with her father:
“So today is my dad's birthday, and the number one thing for somebody's passing is to talk to them and let your emotions out. If you miss them, you can cry. You can talk to them."
"I talk to my dad every day. I start with a sentence, and I say, 'Hi, Dad. I miss you, and I love you so much, and I'll never stop loving you.' ”
Her father rose to fame portraying Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek, later appearing as a fictionalized version of himself on the ABC sitcom Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. He also starred as FBI agent Elijah Mundo on CSI: Cyber and appeared as Matt Bromley during the first season of the FX drama Pose.
Emilia continued:
“And I just tell him about my day, how I’m feeling … and I know he can hear me, but I can’t hear him. My mom can.”
While acknowledging that losing someone is difficult, Emilia encouraged others to express their emotions and lean on family for support.
She shared what brings her comfort after her father’s passing:
“I know that my dad is in a good place. He’s not in pain anymore. He’s in heaven, above the clouds with God. And the Lord.”
According to Emilia, a lasting message her father shared with her was that no matter how his story ended, she should continue believing in miracles. The young speaker also thanked supporters who donated to a GoFundMe created by friends of Kimberly Van Der Beek to help support the family.

Van Der Beek died on February 11 at age 48 after battling stage three colorectal cancer. Kimberly Van Der Beek also paid tribute to her husband by sharing dozens of photos and clips of the actor on her Instagram Stories.
One post included a photo of the couple together with a short message reflecting on the day:
“Would be your 49th birthday today. And I'm missing you tremendously.”

This year's LA Marathon winner takes "by a nose" to a whole new level—and made history for the second time in his running career in the process.
Nathan Martin, a cross country coach from Jackson, Michigan, won the Los Angeles Marathon out of nowhere when he bested Kenyan runner Michael Kamau at the last possible moment by a gasp-inducing margin.
He won by one one-hundredth of a second. Yes, it was a 0.01 second tie breaker.
Martin's time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, 16.50 seconds was the closest race finish in LA Marathon history, and left judges and spectators alike breathless.
Kamau had appeared to be the frontrunner for quite some time, and was presumed to win until the last second, well ahead of Martin just mere feet from the finish line.
But in the final seconds, Martin suddenly surged ahead and bested him in a truly astonishing finish that is heart-pounding to watch.
Asked by media how he did it, he said:
“In any race, I just want to give 100%. I saw an opportunity to race at the end and give one last push. All I wanted to do is push myself.”
Davis also explained that he'd pulled ahead of nearly everyone in the final five miles, telling journalist John W. Davis that when he pushed harder almost no one seemed to come with him.
In the final mile, it seemed clear that he had a real, fighting chance to best Kamau if he dug deep and made it happen. And that's just what he did, at the last possible moment.
This isn't the first time Martin has made history either: His personal best of 2:10:45, set in 2023, made him the fastest U.S.-born Black marathoner ever.
Davis asked Martin how it felt to hold that kind of rarefied status as a Black man. Martin told him:
"Never give up and never assume what you're 'supposed' to be good at."
Sage advice, indeed.
On social media, Martin's win has left pretty much everyone astonished.
Martin is also just the second American to win the LA Marathon over 30 years after last year's winner, Matt Richtman, broke an American losing streak that had been in place since 1994.
Condolences to his students back in Jackson, Michigan, who are never going to get to slack off at practice ever again!
But they're no doubt lucky to have a coach like Martin. In his final remarks to Davis, he stressed the importance of going for a personal best over winning titles and trophies. He's definitely a testament to that important lesson.
The Wall Street Journal, part of a media conglomerate controlled by Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch, recently profiled Pete Docter of Pixar. The director of such hits as Monsters, Inc., Up, and Inside Out, Docter has served as the chief creative officer (CCO) at Pixar since 2018 and has won three Academy Awards for his directing.
In the article, Docter—who has emphasized how his Christian faith guides his decisions—stated:
"As time’s gone on, I realized my job is to make sure the films appeal to everybody."
But the quote that's drawing backlash was Docter’s comment about changes he ordered in the film Elio. Docter defended the removal of the LGBTQ+ storyline from Elio, including a reported scene where the main character imagined living with his male crush.
Docter told the WSJ:
"We're making a movie, not hundreds of millions of dollars in therapy."
Docter backed his choice to eliminate LGBTQ+ characters and storylines from Pixar products because he had found that "certain parents" did not want entertainment to pressure them into having conversations they were not ready to have with their children.
People found Docter’s capitulation to "certain parents," or the insertion of his own homophobia, disheartening.

So the head of Pixar seems to have forgotten that basically every fable, children’s show, Disney movie, and Pixar movie in the past has very much introduced difficult topics that parents do not want/are not ready to address with their children. Their actual purpose is to teach lessons. 🤪

Despite the changes Docter ordered, Elio was a financial flop.
Because of his concern for "certain parents," Docter demanded extensive changes to Elio by new directors Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi after the animation was mostly complete. The move led to backlash among Pixar staff members.
Elio was conceived by openly gay animator, storyboard artist, screenwriter, and director Adrian Molina as a story about childhood and social isolation, and Molina—who was the screenwriter and codirector of Pixar hit Coco—was slated to direct.
He parted with the project over demands to remove any queer coding from the film—the male crush, a pink bike, turning trash he’d collected into a pink tank top—despite leaving in the plot point that lead character Elio would be sent to Camp Carver, a military-themed summer camp, so he could learn to be more masculine/disciplined.
At no point in the original version of the film did Elio or any other character identify his sexuality, but the mere suggestion of a boy liking pink and having a crush on another male—something most children experience whether straight or LGBTQ+—was deemed too traumatizing for "certain parents."
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that while he had Elio reworked to appease "certain parents," Docter also ordered the removal of a transgender storyline from the Pixar TV series Win or Lose.
Kai Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump, sparked backlash after she shared a tone-deaf vlog called "I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon"—in which she goes shopping with her Secret Service detail.
Erewhon is an upscale grocery chain in the Greater Los Angeles area that has been compared to the early years of Whole Foods Market. It boasts 11 locations and prices are definitely out of reach for many Americans struggling out there in the middle of a nationwide affordability crisis.
Kai Trump, a MAGA influencer, bragged about the high prices at the start of her video:
"Alright, guys, well, welcome back to the channel. Right now, we are in Erewhon, which is in LA. This is to be an Erewhon video. and everything I get from Erewhon... Erewhon is the most expensive grocery store, pretty much out there. Everything's crazy expensive."
At one point, she joked that she's "gonna need to file for bankruptcy" as she purchased items as varied as health supplements, sushi, and even a water bottle shaker.
At one point, she samples the sushi but quickly spits it out, saying:
"I love sushi. That is the worst tuna I’ve ever tasted in my entire life. It was fishy and, like, hard. ... I'm gonna throw up."
Kai also sampled several items from the market’s hot bar, including rice balls, vegan buffalo cauliflower and short rib, saying:
"It's good. Is this worth $37? No. I could probably make this all at home for… under $10."
Her entire grocery haul came to $233 and fit into a single bag. After she exited the store, the cameraman joked that the Secret Service was rolling out the “red carpet” as a line of black SUVs pulled up to the curb. She later returned to her hotel room to show off what she'd bought, which included a $21 Hailey Bieber smoothie, a $14 bottle of water and a $17 jar of dates.

Considering how high grocery prices are for the average American, and that the price of gas has spiked now that Kai's grandfather has launched a war with Iran, people are pretty angry at the tone-deafness on display.

President Donald Trump is getting dragged online after attempting a bizarre tug-of-war handshake with Paraguayan President Santiago Peña at the inaugural "Shield of the Americas" summit over the weekend
In a 16-second clip from the encounter, Trump is seen repeatedly tugging Peña’s hand during a handshake, while Peña maintains a steady grip and remains composed. The two briefly pull back and forth while smiling for cameras before releasing their hands and turning to a short conversation.

This tug-of-war style handshake has attracted attention before.
For example, The Guardian once observed that "the peculiar thing about Trump’s handshake style is his habit of pushing people away or, more commonly, pulling them towards him during the handshake," adding that "news clips are full of examples of Trump pumping people’s hands and then yanking them towards him."
The publication notes that "there’s even a shot of him yanking Neil Gorsuch’s arm so violently during a handshake that the poor unsuspecting judge momentarily loses his balance."
And indeed, Chris Ulrich, a body language expert, once told the New York Times that Trump "will open his hand in beggar’s pose, toward the candidate, and then pull him in toward his body ... It literally takes a moment for Gorsuch to recover."
There's also weird footage out there of Trump's odd handshakes with world leaders like Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel, and the late Shinzo Abe—and many of these handshakes have been described as a way for the president to assert his superiority.
People were not impressed by this latest display—and mocked Trump profusely.
One thing is clear: Trump can't seem to go a single day without an embarrassing interaction with another world leader.
