Chris Christie Rips Ted Cruz Over His Cancun Trip—And Payback Is Certainly A Beach

When it comes to his secret escape to Cancun, Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas can't catch a break even from his fellow Republicans.

On a Friday, February 19, episode of The Guy Benson Show radio show, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared and tore into Cruz's likeability among his peers.

If anyone could sympathize with Cruz's position, it's Christie.

In 2017, after closing his state's beaches to the public due to a budgetary issue, Christie was photographed relaxing on a beach with his family.

But Cruz couldn't help but remember how Cruz reacted to that controversy.

He told host Guy Benson:

"I have sympathy for anyone in public life with a family who faces those kind of really difficult decisions on a regular basis, and I faced them a couple of times when I was governor. And I made mistakes at times because I was thinking more like a father than about the full-time job that I had. So I have sympathy in that."
"But I will tell you that it's hard to have sympathy for Ted Cruz, because Ted was right on board making fun of me back in 2017 when I had that incident on the beach."

Many on Twitter made the same connection Christie did, comparing Cruz's trip to Cancun to an embarrassing "beach incident."

Christie went on to describe Cruz as unlikeable, saying:

"Ted has just not been a very likable guy."
"He's taken every chance he can to take shots at people on both sides of the aisle over the course of his career. So ... when you decide that's what you want to do, especially on personal matters, there's not going to be a ton of people running to your defense."

The internet was also eager to remind Christie he wasn't a lot better than Cruz in their eyes.

Cruz and Christie are both former Republican presidential candidates, but it's hard to imagine either of them making a serious run for national office in the wake of their respective scandals.

Perhaps if Ted Cruz had been nicer to Chris Christie in 2017, he'd have a defender now.

But, sadly, Ted Cruz's friends are pretty sparse even in the GOP.

Trump Gives Mind-Numbing Reason For Why He Voted By Mail-In Ballot After Railing Against It

Although he regularly claims mail-in ballots are used by Democrats to rig elections, President Donald Trump was called out for voting by mail in Florida's election on Tuesday—and saying it's okay that he did it because he's the "president."

Palm Beach County records show that Trump cast a mail-in ballot earlier this week in the special election for Florida’s House District 87, the district that includes his Mar-a-Lago residence. He also voted by mail in the January primary for the same race.
