Ted Cruz Blasted For Making Cringey Cancun Jokes As Texas Gets Hit With Freezing Temperatures

The GOP Senator decided the best way to respond to Texas' latest cold snap was to joke about the time he fled to Cancun in 2021—and critics aren't happy about it.

Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz's attempt at humor was widely panned when he referenced his Cancun scandal while warning fellow Texans to stay warm in freezing temperatures.

In February 2021, the Junior Senator was lambasted for ditching his constituents and fleeing to sunny Cancun with his family when the Lone Star State was experiencing a historic winter storm.

Millions of Texans were left without water and power at the time, and the poor energy infrastructure led to a major power crisis resulting in the deaths of at least 246 people.

On Sunday, Cruz advised his constituents to take additional measures to keep warm in preparation for a massive cold blast hitting the state.

“Texans, with the freeze coming, wrap your pipes, cover your plants, stay off icy roads & keep your family safe,” he said.

Cruz then added the following punchline:

“And, if it gets too damn cold, join me in Cancun!”

The GOP Senator shared a clip of SNL actor Aidy Bryant portraying him enjoying his tropical getaway.

Nobody laughed at his attempt at self-mockery.

Good riddance.

Meanwhile, Texans rooted for Democratic Representative Collin Allred to unseat Cruz in the upcoming Senate election in Texas.

When fellow politicians and constituents slammed Cruz for abandoning Texans in a time of need, he returned to Texas while he allowed his family to stay in Mexico. He later admitted the impromptu vacation at the Ritz Carlton in Cancun was a mistake.

After the fallout, Cruz has repeatedly mentioned Cancun to appear self-deprecating.

Last May while he was in Midland, Texas, he posted a photo of himself next to a neon sign that read, "Cancun Grill."

He excitedly wrote in the caption, "Guess what I found!"

But all it does is remind people of what an awful Senator he is.
