In a petition for writ of certiorari filed last month, she contends that the First Amendment’s free exercise protections shield her from personal liability for denying the licenses. She also argues that the Supreme Court’s landmark Obergefell v. Hodges ruling—which recognized same-sex marriage rights under the 14th Amendment’s due process clause—was “egregiously wrong.”
And in came Buttigieg to point out the hypocrisy of Davis' position on the "sanctity" of marriage.
He said:
"Meet Kim Davis, the woman who would like to speak to the manager, I mean Supreme Court, about marriage."
The section of Davis' Wikipedia page that he highlighted reads:
"Davis has been married four times to three husbands. The first three marriages ended in divorce in 1994, 2006, and 2008. Davis has two daughters from her first marriage and twins, a son and another daughter, who were born five months after her divorce from her first husband."
"Her third husband is the biological father of the twins, the children being conceived while Davis was still married to her first husband. The twins were adopted by Davis's current husband, Joe Davis, who was also her second husband; the couple initially divorced in 2006 but later remarried.

Others have also called out Davis' hypocrisy.
The petition appears to be the first formal request since 2015 for the Supreme Court to overturn its landmark same-sex marriage ruling, with Davis regarded as one of the few Americans who may have legal standing to challenge the precedent.
Lower courts have rejected her arguments, and most legal experts view her effort as a long shot. Earlier this year, a federal appeals court panel ruled that Davis “cannot raise the First Amendment as a defense because she is being held liable for state action, which the First Amendment does not protect.”
In 2015, as Rowan County Clerk, Davis was the sole official authorized under state law to issue marriage licenses on behalf of the government.
Indeed, owing to cell phones and streaming services, businesses like Radio Shack and Blockbuster were rendered more or less unnecessary (unless you live in Bend, Oregon).

Trump publicly demanded that Abbott have the congressional districts in Texas gerrymandered so Trump can cheat his way into retaining control of the House of Representatives during the 2026 midterm elections.
So like Trump's other groveling sycophants, Abbott and the Texas GOP rolled out a new congressional map which should garner Trump the five seats he demanded.
In July, Newsom let Republican strongholds know that if they intended to use redistricting to suppress BIPOC and Democratic votes, blue states can do the same thing, canceling out all of their ill-gotten gains.
In a letter to Trump, Newsom wrote:
"You are playing with fire, risking the destabilization of our democracy, while knowing that California can neutralize any gains you hope to make. If you will not stand down, I will be forced to lead an effort to redraw the maps in California to offset the rigging of maps in red states."
"But if the other states call off their redistricting efforts, we will happily do the same. And American democracy will be better for it."
Newsom’s press office said at 3:30 p.m. PST on Monday, Trump had "24 hours" to respond to the letter. It was posted on X with a warning that mocked Trump's own social media posting style.
The press office posted:
"DONALD TRUMP HAS 24 HOURS LEFT TO RESPOND TO GOVERNOR NEWSOM’S LETTER. IF HE DOES NOT STAND DOWN, THERE WILL BE A VERY IMPORTANT PRESS CONFERENCE THIS WEEK WITH A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER."
They later posted a "second-to-last" warning, writing:

As the deadline approached, Newsom's press office trolled Trump further, posting:
"CALIFORNIA CRIME WAY DOWN in 2024 — murders, robberies, assaults, ALL DOWN. Meanwhile, Crooked Trump sends in troops to 'fight crime' in Dem cities (a LIE!) while GOP states have MUCH higher crime rates. He even pardoned the J6 thugs. Total FRAUD!"
In the final warning, Newsom's press office posted:

Newsom's press office isn't done being a thorn in Trump's side.
On Wednesday, they addressed Trump's accomplice in suppressing the release of the Epstein files that implicate Trump, Republican Speaker of the House and self-described Christian nationalist Mike Johnson.
The press office posted:

Now, in an interview with E! News, Anderson opened up about her decision to carve a new path and new identity for herself.
Anderson, who describes her work as "indie folk pop," has previously launched several songs, which can be listened to on Spotify and similar platforms, including "Telephones and Traffic" and "Don't Forget Me."
"Drown" is her first EP release, dropped on August 8, and included her previously released singles and several others.
With the excitement of her first EP drop, Anderson, who uses she/they pronouns, shared with E! News her decision to change her name to honor three important parts of her life: her family, herself, and her music.
"'Frances' is actually part of my legal name; it's my middle name, and it's after my mom's old family friend."
"I thought, one, that it was a bit shorter than 'Aubrey Anderson-Emmons'; I do have a long, hyphenated last name."
"I just wanted to switch it up, and I wanted people to see a new side of me, and I wanted to create a space specifically just for music, and I'm so excited for everybody to hear the songs on the EP, and I'm so grateful."
She then described the most "creative shift" she experienced, going from Lily on Modern Family to Frances as a musician.
"I think I had to really take a step back from acting. I was homeschooled my whole life, and the show ended when I was twelve years old, so after that, I decided I'm not going to act anymore."
"And I do now plan on acting again, for sure, one hundred percent. But I took that time for myself, and I really found myself through picking up school with kids my age, finally."
"It was really nice to have that experience, and with the show ending when it did, it was really nice timing, I think."
"It was a very interesting time, because the show ended when I was twelve, and then the pandemic hit two weeks later, and everyone was locked inside. Then the second I went back to school, I went to a public school with four thousand kids in it. Kind of scary!"
As for the Modern Family crew, Anderson said the cast knew she was releasing music. Julie Bowen, who played Claire Dunphy on the show, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Mitchell Pritchett, both commented on some of her Instagram posts about her music, and both attended some of her school plays while she was still in high school.
A supportive family unit, indeed!
Finally, Anderson hoped that everyone who heard her music could find themselves in it.

"I hope you do some dancing or frolicking around in a field to some of my songs, if you like to!"
"You know, or even cry. I have a couple sad songs on there, as well."

It's refreshing to see fans so openly welcome Anderson's transformation into this new iteration of herself, her shift back into the public eye, and her move into music.
With this being her first EP, there's no telling what Anderson will do next, but we're sure it will be great!
