WATCH: Paul Ryan Roasts Trump, Chuck Schumer & Others at Political Dinner

Paul Ryan roasted Donald Trump, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other political figures at an annual political charity dinner in New York.

The House Speaker was on a roll, seemingly polishing his standup routine and hurling his best jabs with aplomb. It was fair game, and even Trump took a few hits.

Ryan served as the keynote speaker for the 72nd annual charity dinner for the Alfred E. Smith Foundation, which traditionally assembles political rivals for a night of tongue-in-cheek insults.

The speaker certainly had a lot to say.

"Look at all the new jobs the president has created, just among the White House staff," he ribbed, referring to the assembly line resignations inside the White House.

Attendees egged him on with many rounds of applause.

Some of the highlights included this swipe at Trump from the dinner last year:

I know last year that Donald Trump offended some people. I know his comments, according to critics, went too far. Some said it was unbecoming of a public figure. And they said that his comments were offensive. Well, thank God he's learned his lesson."

He lambasted the Senate Minority Leader:

"A lot of people, they ask me, you know, a guy from Wisconsin, what's it like to work on a daily basis with an abrasive New Yorker with a loudmouth? But you know once you get to know him, Chuck Schumer's not all that bad. I know why he's been so hard on the President, actually. It has nothing to do with ideology. You see, Chuck's mad that he lost his top donor."

He and Sarah Palin share something in common:

This one was for Hillary:

"I'm from Wisconsin. Wisconsin is a fantastic place to visit in the fall. Looking back, someone probably should have told Hillary Clinton that fact."

Steve Bannon got a mention:

"The fact that you learn when you're speaker: I am now second in line of succession since Steve Bannon has resigned. Very cool, very close."

When Trump criticized Ryan, his response was this:

"You know, at one point, the President actually insulted me. I know that sounds kind of surprising. He described me as a Boy Scout who was boring to talk to. It didn't hurt my feelings. What hurt my feelings was when my wife agreed with him."

While the crowd responded favorably to Ryan's routine, there was some heckling from the Internet.

While others found Paul Ryan quite amusing.

Elizabeth Warren Rips Education Secretary's Mind-Numbing Video For 'Teacher Appreciation Week'

Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren criticized Education Secretary Linda McMahon for paying tribute to educators during "Teacher Appreciation Week," noting the hypocrisy of McMahon's actions as she honors teachers on one hand and works to dismantle the Department of Education on the other.

In March, President Donald Trump signed an executive order empowering McMahon “to the maximum extent appropriate and permitted by law, take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return authority over education to the States and local communities.”
