After conservative commentator Scott Jennings tried to cry foul over Georgia Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff's quip about President Donald Trump's problematic relationship with his aide Natalie Harp, CNN highlighted his selective outrage by playing a montage of Trump attacking various women.

Ossoff drew attention to the Trump-Harp relationship while discussing U.S. Navy sailors who have complained about the conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been deployed in the Middle East since November of 2025.

There are reports of poor conditions aboard the Lincoln, including sailors allegedly being served spoiled food and several reported attempts to go overboard during the carrier’s extended deployment amid the Iran war. Trump and administration officials have largely dismissed those reports.

Ossoff said:

"While the sailors on the Lincoln fight his war, while he fruitlessly drains our munitions and oil reserves, the president sleeps through his meetings. He golfs and trades stocks. See, he doesn’t want to do the job; he wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”

You can hear what he said in the video below.

Ossoff's remarks angered Jennings, who called Ossoff a "coward" and said he should "own [his] sexist joke." Jennings said Ossoff had delivered "quite a message for the Democratic Party to send to young women working in politics."

Jennings brought his grievances to his latest NewsNight appearance, which you can see below.

Jennings argued that Ossoff's remark was inappropriate because Harp "is not a public figure" even though Harp is the executive assistant to the president and her salary is paid by taxpayers:

“I expect Ossoff to criticize Donald Trump. I expect every Democrat running for president to criticize Trump. What I thought was appalling about this is that Harp is not a public figure."
"She’s not a household name. Nobody knows who she is. And when he injected her into this, he knew what he was doing, which is punching down on someone who’s effectively defenseless.”

Mediaite founder Dan Abrams pushed back, telling Jennings that if he's this angry about Ossoff, then he should "also be criticizing the way Donald Trump talks about women."

Indeed, Jennings complaint overlooked that women have long borne the brunt of Trump's misogynistic pejoratives and other attacks.

Trump was found liable for the sexual abuse of writer E. Jean Carroll, and oft-maligned adult film actor Stormy Daniels despite going so far as to falsify business records to conceal hush money payments he made to her to illegally stop her from influencing the 2016 election. He has also used the Justice Department as a weapon against those who've accused him of sexual assault.

In response, NewsNight host Abby Phillip played a montage of Trump publicly disparaging several prominent women, including CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins, actor and comedian Rosie O’Donnell, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The montage ends with Trump responding "Quiet, piggy" to a reporter who'd asked him a question on Air Force One.

Afterward, Phillip pressed Jennings on whether he was willing to express the same outrage over Trump’s comments that he had shown toward Ossoff’s remark. “I do not believe in demeaning women in any way,” Jennings responded, but Democratic operative Keith Boykin interrupted, accusing him of avoiding the question and demanding to know whether he was actually outraged.

As Jennings attempted to explain his “issue” with the situation, Boykin continued pressing him:

"You are not answering the question!"

The exchange grew increasingly heated, with Jennings turning to the camera to tell viewers, “You have no idea how loud this is.” “You have no idea how dishonest you are,” Boykin shot back, as Phillip struggled to regain control of the discussion.

Jennings was criticized after a clip of the exchange went viral.

Harp's brother, Preston, criticized his sister's "sad" and "unhealthy obsession" with the president as CNN reported that she once rode in the trunk of an SUV in Trump's motorcade when she was told there were no seats left.

He said his sister’s fascination with the White House began when she was a teenager during the George W. Bush administration. He told Burnett that she had been “obsessed” with the presidency since she was about 16 and had written letters to other presidents before her relationship with Trump.

Trump has not responded to criticisms about his relationship with Harp.
