After A Nation-Wide Cash Register Outage At Target Created A Huge Mess, The Internet Found The Humor In It All

After A Nation-Wide Cash Register Outage At Target Created A Huge Mess, The Internet Found The Humor In It All
Saturday Night Live/NBC, @jasonapuma_/Twitter

If you went to Target this past Father's Day weekend, you may have been subject to some unusually long checkout lines and a sea of abandoned carts.

The reason?

A nation-wide systems outage on Saturday that left cash registers down for two hours, as well as an unrelated issue with credit card readers not working in some stores on Sunday.

Let's just say that Target customers were none too pleased.

Target assured customers that the outage was an "internal technology issue" and was not not related to security. Wary Target customers may have had flashbacks to late 2013, when Target was the victim of a security breach in which the data of an estimated 40 million credit and debit cards were stolen.

In a statement to CNBC following the weekend's troubles, a Target spokesperson said:

"We know many guests had a frustrating shopping experience in our stores this weekend. For that, we are truly sorry. We never want to disappoint any guests and we're working tirelessly to ensure these issues don't happen again."

While irritating for many, some people were able to find the humor in the situation as the hashtag #targetdown began to trend.

Those poor Target employees...

Walmart, a main competitor of Target, was a popular punchline.

And of course everyone's favorite unofficial Target mascot made an appearance.

But, if you're like a lot of Target shoppers who go into the store for shampoo and end up with a cart worth your entire paycheck, it was probably a blessing in disguise.

As of Monday the issues have been resolved, according to Target.

So you can now go about your regularly-schedule business of buying a bunch of stuff you don't need.

And hey, maybe you can finally get dad that Father's Day card for a heavy discount!

Trump Blasted After Military Scrubs WWII Navajo Code Talkers From Websites Due To 'DEI'

The Department of Defense and the U.S. Army have been widely criticized after they removed materials from their websites about the World War II Navajo Code Talkers, who from 1942 to 1945 played a crucial role in every major Marine Corps operation in the Pacific, using their unbreakable code to secure communications.

News outlets found that at least 10 articles about the Code Talkers had vanished from the U.S. Army and Department of Defense websites as of Monday. The Defense Department’s URLs had been modified to include the letters "DEI," indicating they may have been removed following President Trump’s executive order dismantling federal diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

MTG Gets Schooled By Holocaust Historian After Unfounded Claim About 'Nazis In Ukraine' In Resurfaced Clip

A resurfaced video from 2024 reminded social media users of the time Yale historian and best-selling author Dr. Timothy Snyder gave Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene a blunt fact-check after she touted the rise of "Nazis in Ukraine" during a recent congressional hearing.

The video is more relevant than ever following a contentious White House meeting last month between President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Vice President J.D. Vance. The meeting turned heated when Vance berated Zelenskyy, leading the Ukrainian president to leave without signing an agreement for U.S. security guarantees in exchange for access to Ukrainian rare earth minerals.
