Mom Influencer Sparks Debate After Revealing She Snacks On Her Groceries Before Checkout

TikToker Cecily Bauchmann sparked an ethics debate after posting a video about how she ate a container of grocery store sushi before buying it.

We all know that we should never go to a grocery store while we're hungry.

This might be specifically to avoid making unnecessary purchases—but it might also be to keep us from eating groceries while wandering up and down the aisles.

We all know that we technically shouldn't eat groceries while still in the store prior to purchasing them, but people have differing opinions when it comes to the intention of purchasing the item anyway.

Mom influencer and TikToker @cecilybauchmann ignited a new argument about this when she showed herself multiple times on video eating an entire tray of sushi while doing her grocery shopping—but without purchasing the tray first.

Bauchmann often shares "get ready with me" videos, as well as videos of her children, humorous moments from her life, and shopping trips, including deals she might have taken advantage of during the shopping trip.

But during a recent shopping trip, she shared for the first time that she often eats while shopping—which led to a deeply divided and impassioned conversation in her comments section.

Check out this video for her "confession" to eating the sushi at the store:

While everyone could understand the struggle of doing the weekly grocery shopping while already hungry—and how tough it can be to make smart decisions under that condition—they were much more divided on responding to the hungry pangs.

Some completely agreed with Bauchmann and confessed to eating in the grocery store all the time.

Their argument was two-fold: Bauchmann had every intention of paying for the package of sushi, whether the sushi was still present or not.

Plus, the cashier excused her and said she could still scan the package, enabling the mom influencer to pay for them.

But others were bothered by Bauchmann's confession and questioned her behavior as a customer.

Others pointed out that because Bauchmann did not own the sushi yet, she was essentially stealing the store's property; not to mention the possibility that a card could be declined at the register or she could not have enough cash on her, making her unable to pay for the sushi after the fact.

Some were also just super grossed out at the possibly unsanitary conditions of someone eating food, touching fingers to their lips, and also touching products that someone else would later purchase.

A few cashiers also chimed in, voicing their displeasure at her choice to eat the sushi before purchasing.

Though one cashier in the comments said that cashiers are not "paid enough to care," the cashiers in the comments were overwhelmingly against eating the sushi because it was unsanitary and technically stealing—and it also made the mom influencer's trash their responsibility, which was not a duty they had signed up for.

Everyone can understand being hungry at the grocery store, but it seems more reasonable to either purchase something at the beginning of the shopping trip and save the receipt as proof of purchase, or to simply wait until reaching the parking lot and eating a snack before driving away.

Food for thought.
