Aretha Franklin passed away on Thursday, August 16 due to pancreatic cancer.

Her death brought out a multitude of tributes from famous fans and friends alike.

However, Jim Carrey's tribute painting received serious backlash from some fans after he posted it to Twitter.

Here is the actor and comedian turned visual artist's tweet.

People took exception to Carrey's palette choices.

Some people thought the portrait resembled a different person entirely—actress Kathy Bates.

Some thought Carrey intended the portrait to show bright light—stage or heavenly—shining on Franklin's face.

Carrey, according to People, took up painting about six years ago.

Most of his recent works involve a series of political statements aimed at President Trump and the state of the USA according to Carrey.

Fans offered solutions to what they saw wrong with Carrey's Aretha Franklin tribute.

Regardless of fan opinions on his level of artistic talent, it is clear Carrey meant no disrespect to the Queen of Soul with his well-intentioned tribute.
