The Oscar winner wore a blonde wig to honor Karl Lagerfeld at the 2023 Met Gala—but looked unrecognizable without her signature red locks.

As expected, the stars turned up and turned out for the 2023 Met Gala.

The theme of the night was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty." Celebs left it all on the red carpet to honor the controversial late designer.

Big names celebrated the former creative director for Chanel.

Some wore his designs with others opting for either white...

... or black...

... or both.

Some even honored Lagerfeld's famous cat, Choupette.

But the transformation of the night went to Jessica Chastain, who was barely recognizable after swapping her signature red hair for blonde.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye actor looked absolutely stunning in a tiered black evening gown with matching sheer opera gloves and Lagerfeld-esque sunnies, but the platinum locks she was sporting had people doing a double-take.

In fact, Chastain herself shared with The Associated Press she had to shed her shades and reveal her identity to some photographers.

You can see the look below.

Speaking with The Associated Press about the steer from her usual fiery tresses, Chastain disclosed:

"Well, it's not forever."
"It's for Karl."

She joked with the outlet about other photographers not recognizing her initially.

"I was taking photos down there and the photographers were like, 'Who is that? Who is that?'"

Chastain also discretely noted to an inquiring reporter:

"It's a wig."

You can watch that moment below.

Not only did people on social media acknowledge Chastain absolutely slayed with this look, but they also noted she nailed the theme of the evening.

And others gave the red carpet photographers some slack, claiming they would not have recognized her either.

We have to admit, she worked that wig. 🔥
